ite for evening of fellowship in
Unit 1

The May meeting of Unit 1 of Lucknow
U.C.W. met in the church parlor with an
attendance of 16.
Leader Grace Gibson welcomed all
present and read a poem entitled Horne at
Last.
A minutes silence was kept in memory of
Mrs. 'Wilbur Brown who was a former
member of our unit.
The roll call was answered by naming a
woman from the Bible and her character-
istics.
The money jar was passed ..for two
birthdays.
The secretary and treasurer's reports
were read and approved.
Mrs. Morrison reported for social, func-
tions. She said help and food are needed
for the Father and :Son banquet on May 15.
The members joined the- other. unitsin
the fellowship room for an interesting and
well prepared program by the committee -in
charge.
Unit 2

Unit 2 of the Lucknow U.C.W. met in the
tr•
fellowship room on Tuesday, May 6 with 14
members and two visitors present.
Mrs. ..Alex Hackett presided in the
absence of our leader Mrs; Vernon -Hunter.
The Meeting opened with two verses of the
hymn, What a friend we have in Jesus,
accompanied by Mrs. peter Cook, followed
by the poem, Has soineone wen -Christ ,in
you to -day? and a prayer by Mrs. `Hackett. ,
:.The minutes 'were tiad And 'approved
and the offering was taken and dedicated.
There were no May birthdays to' add' to
our birthday fund.,
The roll call was answered with "a 'Bible
verse pertaining to a mother 'in the Bible,.
Mrs. Dexter reported 45. visits had. been
made by- members in April. The collection
taken' for cards had:beer 56-35. Mrs. Mary
MacGillivray asked :for food and helpers for
the' Scout Banquet'on May 15' at
Mrs. • Hackett .,announced " the.members

Units 1 and 3 joined Unit ,2 '}in the
fellowship room with 51 ladies attending.
Mrs. Freda Button welcomed the .ladies.
and Mrs. Donald Cameron read a poem, A
Mother's Love. '
The members 'sang the hymn When
Mother's of Salem. The scripture from
Proverbs chapter 31 was read by Mrs. Ross
-Henderson. Mrs. Leonard gave

an inspiring meditation Whit makes a
good Mother's Day? She` closed with the
poem A Mother's, Crown. Mrs. Grace
Gibson gave the prayer, Mrs. Elsie
Houston. and Mrs. Raynard Ackert sang
two duets, Back of the clouds the sun is
always shining, and Love lifted me, with
Mrs. Harvey Webster as the 'accompanist...
Guest Speaker
Mrs. Button introduced our speaker,
Claire, McGowan of Goderich. She was
born 'in East Wawanosh, Township=,. where
she had been a teacher. Later she returned
to university and then shewent toChina,,
where she was a missionary and teacher for
several years.
Upon retiring, she worked_;. at: the
Children's Aid in ., Goderich Since here
retirement, .she has been the visiting
assistant at N'orth,Street`.UUntted Church;.in
Goderich:As

In 1982 and 1984 she made trips on the
Thomas Crosby, up the ,.coast of ' British
Columbia, Herlast trip lasted three weeks.
The ship has over 5D ports of call and she
had visited 44.
Her slides showed the various tasks that
awaited this• ship as:% it landed at these..,.
ports. Her commentary was most interest- -
ing and humorous. One slide •.showed pg.
and Mrs. Darby's home, They are_ the only
white people who are buried in,their own
yard. Following her • presentation, there

Mrs. Button thanked the corrimittee and
all who had taken part to " this excellent
