Most homeowners want nice looking .
yards that are virtually maintenance free.
That's where Huron Landscaping • of
I,ucknow comes on the scene.
Owned by Greg Alton of Lucknow, Huron
Landscaping has been in business for eight
years, employs 11, and this season is prov-
ing
to be the busiest yet, says Sue Mots-
tgomery, landscape architect.
The firm does everything from desigit
work to the actual planting of trees, shrubs ,
and brick and stone work. The retail outlet, •
located half a mile south of Lucknow on the,
Dungannon Road is open seven days 'a week, "
Monday to Saturday from 8 to 6 and Suiiday;
from noon to 5,
The only thing Huron Landscaping doesn't
have is flowers, but it has everything else
for making yards more attractive.' Depen-
ding on what the customer desires, the firrn•
has' any type of shrub, deciduous trees and
junipers. It also carries some types..-Qf
ground cover, roses, a large variety of trees,
including hard and soft woods and
evergreens.
"I would say people. have a greater ul
terest in landscaping today," says Molt
.tgomery. . "Most people want yards that
nice, don't need much maintenance and
they want lots of types of shrubs and trees
that are low maintenance."
Though Huron Landscaping Handles jobs
that require material only, it also provides
the material and labor for homeowners who
want to install inter -locking brick, timber
for planters, decks, fences and retaining
walls.
The new styles of inter -locking brick are
popular because of a wide range of colors
and patterns. Huron Landscaping uses
pressure -treated lumber and some cedar for
its woodwork. Railroad ties have been
replaced by the new, 'easier to use lumber
because the ties don't bleach `evenly, are not
always square and therefore are hard to
work with,
"We often find that some people, after we
do the design work, are `interested in stone
and timber and they 'want. help with the
work. It it's a large property, the owner may
want.to4:lo the designing in stages and either
they, or we, do the work."
When it comes to trees, Montgomery says
most people still want maples and the Crim-
son Kink; (red maple) is the most popular,
despite its price tag. The red maple is more
expensive'because it's a slow grower. Peo-
