The Lucknow Sentinel, 1986-04-30, Page 13Iej:iort on two swimmers
The purpose of this report is to compare
two Canadian Women. The two women I
have chosen are Abby Hoffman and
Marilyn Bell. I will compare them on
personal facts, characteristics, accomplish-
ments and importance of contributions.
Abby Hoffman comes from Toronto.
Abby was a very determined person who
was also a fighter because she knew she
could do what she wanted as long as she
fought gr it. Abby also seemed to be very
strong and a hard worker. This showed
when she won swimming ' the Ontario
Championship in back stroke and breast
stroke. Also when she ' practised her
running and then won many medals
including a Gold. Abby, later, was appoint-
ed Director of Sports Canada. She believed
everyone should have a fair chance.
Marilyn Bell also comes from Toronto.
Marilyn was a very brave person to swim in
unsafe places. She was also a very strong
swimmer. There is one thing for sure you
can say, Marilyn was a true fighter. She
seemed to never give up. Marilyn was the
first to complete the swim from Young-
stown, New York to Sunnyside Beach in
Toronto and also the youngest person to
swim the English Channel. Marilyn made a
lot of people proud of her and she set an
example for young Canadian Women in
sports.
I feel that Marilyn Bell made the great-
est contribution to Canada but on the other
hand I feel that Abby Hoffman made the
greatest contribution to Canadian Women.
Out of the two women I find that Marilyn
was the most interesting because of her
successfulness in swimming 64 km. across
Lake Ontario. Marilyn Bell would- be the
woman I would like to meet because I feel
she is very interesting. I could probably
find a lot more out about her if I was to see
her in person.

The klallowe en phantoms strike
A boy was walking in the cemetery on
Hallowe'en with his friend to see some-
thing rise. They waited patiently and
suddenly they thought they saw a ghost,
no,' .a witch, no, no, they knew it was a
phantom, a phantom. The boys thought
they should watch him. He looked horrible,
m schi&ious; stubborn, scary and fright-
ening. The phantom was carrying a potion,
and a pumpkin, The character walked into
a house and they heard screaming and then
it was quiet. They decided to co-operate. It
was their responsibility. One took leader-
ship. The boy walked in, in happiness. Now
understanding he was a potion that make
people sleep. But then it was seen that
there was two phantoms. Which is which?
Maturity was shown in the two boys. They
were planning something big. Let's
pss...pss...O.K.
Good. Loneliness came over one of the
boys. You could tell. All, of a sudden one
boy turned. What was he going to do? He
threw a pumpkin and that was the end of
the phantom man. The two boys destroyed
the potion. And the boys walked home,
happy and proud. There were many other
adventures with the boys.

Brent loves the antics of Ticker
My favorite pet is my dog, Tinker. She is
a poodleand she plays ,ball with me. The
further I throw the ball the faster she runs
to get it to bring it back to me. When she is
tired of playing bald she lays down for a rest
and chews on her ball. She likes to go fora
car ride with us so she can bark at other
dogs and people. One day We couldn't tate'
her where we were going so while we were
away she tore up one of my Mom's pillows.
She enjoys taking a bath. After she gets out
of the water she runs around real fast and,
shakes herself.
One day while we were all out in our
back yard., .a little .rabbit ran across the
lawn and when Tinker saw We rabbit she
