To the editor:
Last July, the Lucknow Legion outlined
to me (in the Sentinel) their • selection
process, as to how the 60th Diamond
Jubilee Medals were given. President
.Leonard Clark said it was handed down
.from the Dominion and Zone Command,
levels of the Legion, and, that the selection
was based on outstanding contributions to
•, the work of the local Legion, in all areas of
involvement. President Clark said the
system of selection was "rigid" based on
the number of functions and meetings

ttended by the ine pits, and of their work

I enquired about this years.
this -and in 4, replyfrom
the. Ontario .Provineial Command, theydo
not mention those "rigid rules. They say
it.was the sole responsibility of each
branch, which had to recommend those-
-
members, whom they wished to 'honour,
then forward the names to Provincial
Command for approval. • .
The associate members are doing a good
job in thebranchtheyo, will still be around
or' a while, to get -other medals, but even
ow the veterans' numbers ,are dwindling.
0,1 still ;think the ,Lucknow Legion
ranch Should have honouredmoreof their
veterans, who did "serve their branch as
and in so doing, would have shown
1r.
true spirit of comradeship' in the
branch.

But a change seemed' to be in order.
Despite the people and the surprising
numbec of events in the area, Lucknow
can sometimes be a difficult place for
single 26 year old outsider. The village
has its own pace and 'style and the new-
comer meshes into that pace or not.
Sometimes the pace is a bit slow but
the people here like it that way. And the
people in Lucknow and area are what
made my time here special.
