West Wawanosh Township Council met
for its regular April session in the office of
the municipal works garage on April 1, at
9:30 a.m. All members were in .attendance
with Reeve Aitchison presiding.
None of the members declared a conflict
at this time.
The minutes of the regular March
meeting and a special meeting on March 10
were adopted as printed on motion of
Councillors Hamilton -Seeger and. Cran-
ston.
Members of the Lucknow Arena Board •
attended the meeting to request West
Wawanosh Township Council to consider
increasing its percentage share of the
arena operationfrom 19 per cent to 25 per
cent, since Kinloss and Ashfield Councils
have now agreed to a 25 per cent share of
the cost. Discussion ensured as to ways in
which the method of financing the various
recreational activities centered in Lucknow
could be improved. West Wawanosh
Council made no commitment at this time.
The Building Inspector presented two
applications for building permits for
Council's consideration. Motion by Coun-
cillors Cranston and Brindley,,That West_
Wawanosh Township Council hereby auth-
orizes the building inspector to issue
building permits to 1) G. Morrison (Mobile
home); and 2) J. Thompson(storage shed).
At this point in the meeting (10:40 a.m.)
an increasing amount of smeke was
observed near the mobile bottle owned and
inhabited by Alex Tilbrook, and situated
immediately to the south of the Township
Hall. Examination by the road superin-
tendent and some council members
revealed the mobile in flames, and there-
upon the fire department was summoned.
A very strong southerly wind ultimately
caused sparks to ignite the hall. Then due
to a lengthy delay in getting water in the
hoses, and subsequently no pressure, the
hall was very quickly burned to the ground.
The old steel safe housed in the hall was
recovered from the fire, but not before
severe damage to its contents - assessment
and.cMector's rolls dating back to 1860,
and possibly earlier.
