Break produces 5-2 week
Listowel Blues Atom Bs 3, Lucknow 2
The week of March break was a busy one
for the Atom Bs. On Tuesday the team
returned again this year to the Listowel
Paddyfest Atom B tournament. It was a six
team round robin tourney. Our guys came
out at the consolation winners, playing the
best team hockey they ever have.
As luck would have it, the first game
they played was against the Tournament
Champs, the Listowel Blues. They lost this
game when the Blues scored with five
seconds left in the sudden death overtime
period.
Lucknow's Danny Kerr opened the
scoring in the first period, scoring unassist-
ed. Listowel scored two quick ones in the
second. Steven Adams tied the score in
third period, forcing the one period only
sudden death overtime. With four minutes
left in the overtime period, Lucknow was
penalized five minutes for slashing. With
39 seconds left, Lucknow got a roughing
penalty, although no one but the referee
could figure out why. That left only three
Lucknow players on the ice. Inevitably, the
Blues scored, with only five seconds left in
the game, putting Lucknow in the consola-
tion round. Listowel won 3 - 2.
Lucknow 5, Elma Logan 1
Game two against Elma Logan was
penalty free. The score of this one was 5 - 1
for Lucknow. Scoring for Lucknow- were
Colin Humphrey, unassisted in the first
period. In the second, Mark Stoll scored
assisted by Mark Bakker. Jeremy Brindley
scored his first goal of the season, assisted
by Danny Kerr. Tommy Hogan scored on
assists from Paul Kikkert and Chris
Humphrey. Chris scored the last goal,
unassisted.
Lucknow 4, Listowel Reds 2
The third and last game was played
against the Listowel Reds for the consola-
tion. Chris Humphrey continued his hot
streak and scored the opening goal.
Listowel countered five minutes later.
Danny Kerr scored the go-ahead goal
unassisted in the second period. Two
minutes later Paul Kikkert scored a nice
one on ,a play set up by Mark Bakker and
Dean Tiffin. In the third period Chris
Humphrey came through again, scoring
from Paul Kikkert's pass: With 21 seconds
left in the game, the Reds scored their
second goal, making the final score 4 - 2.
The boys left Listowel with a bag full of
goodies from the tournament sponsors as
well as renewed confidence in themselves.
Lucknow 4, Mildmay 0
Wednesday night the boys travelled to
Mildmay. The momentum from their
tournament wins carried them through to a
4 - 0 win -- the first win they've had against
Mildmay in seven matches. Chalking up
the shut out was goaltender Keith Todd.
Again, Danny Kerr opened the scoring
with an unassisted goal in the first period.
Defenseman Adrian Helm scored the
second period goal assisted by Colin
Humphrey. The two third period goals
were scored by Jeremy Brindley from
Danny Kerr and Chris Humphrey from
Tommy Hogan.
Saturday kept the parents running from
Lucknow to Ripley all day for the Ripley
Atom House League Tournament.
Lucknow 3, Ripley 0
They played the first game -- and the
tournament's first game against Ripley at 9
a.m._ The boys played a fantastic game,
blanking Ripley 3 - 0 scoring one goal each
period. In the first period Darryl Gibson
scored assisted by Nathan Daer. In the
second, Jeremy Brindley scored again
assisted by Nathan. In the third Danny
Kerr scored assisted by Jeremy.
Lucknow 6, Wallace 0
This win moved to the championship
semi-finals against Wallace, a team they'd
never seen before, for a 3 p.m. game.
- -Again-the- te-a-m-came on -strong; -trouncing
Wallace 6 - 0. The first period was
scoreless. The second period lit up the
board three times and the third period lit it
up three more. Chris Humphrey got a hat
trick and one assist; Darryl Gibson, one
goal, one assist; Mark Stoll, one goal, one

Humphrey, two assists; Scott Rintoul, one

Mildmay 2, Lucknow 0
So it was back to Ripley for the
championship game at 8 p.m. 'against
Mildmay, their arch rivals. This was
Lucknow's turn to be blanked 2 - 0,
Mildmay scoring in the first and second
periods. Repeated tries by Lucknow were
stopped by the Mildmay netminder. Some
said the. boys got off on the wrong foot,
when they lost the flip and couldn't wear
their own sweaters as both Mildmay and
Lucknow's sweaters were green! Anyway,
the boys played well, the parents had fun,
and Lucknow's goalie Keith Todd came out
of the tourney with the best goals against
average of the tournament, allowing only
two goals in three games.
