Dying shoes to match
.comptos wedding look
by Corinne Boyle' Caye says she likes to get the shoes
Finding shoes to coordinate with the col- f three or four days before they, are needed
or of a bridesmaid's dress has become in order to do the best job of dying possi-
more of a task with all the different shades ble.
•of miors bridesmaids .are choosing.
An easy way to find the perfect match
for a dress that is becoming very popular
is to get the shoes dyed the same color as
the dress.
"Shoes are part of the total fashion look
and dyable shoes are the best beton the
market," says Caye Mittel of Kittel's Shoe
Box in Walkerton.
"The idea is so simple. Color the shoes
to match the gown, -With just.a swatch of
material, the dye can be matched with any
one of over 7.00 different shades," she says.
The dyable shoes are made of satin or
Irish linen and come in three different heel
heights'.
Caye bas a shoe dying kit and takes
greaCcare- in obtaining even color on the
whole, shoe. The shoes first have to be
stripped with liquid stripper to insure the
shoe is perfectly clean and then dried
thoroughly.

clastic gloves must be worn to protect
the shoe. "No matter how clean your
hands are, there can't be any oil from your
hands on the shoes," she says.
The shoes are carefully and evenly
painted with dye using a brush andsponge.
Depending on how deep the color is that's
wanted, two or three coats of dye may be
required. • popular, shoesolyedfOr*441140hissumMer4(113oyle photo)

The thing that makes shoe dying so
popular is that shoes can be redyed up to
three times.
"Members of the wedding' party are
looking for the best price. Weddings are
costly and the consumer isn't cheap, she
just wants the best bargain and this is it,"
says Caye.
After the wedding, Many women get the
shoes redyed for streetwear as colors often
worn at weddings are impractical for
everyday wear. Mint green shoe which
match a -,hridesmaid- dress will look spec-
tacular on the wedding clay,. but few people
will find the opportunity to wear the same
shoes again.
Caye says the cost of having a pair of
shoes dyed ranges from $10 to $15,
although she does the initigdying free of
charge for her customers. „
She is, able to express a little more -
creativity when redying shoes as some
woolen request designs painted on the toes
of shoes for streetwear.
Creative work is nothing newto me,"
she says. '.'I'vealways loved, doing arts
and crafts. its fun creating new designs."
