The meeting began with a dessert luncheon at 1.30 p.m. Following this, the hymn, Love divine, loves excelling, was sung and the Lord's Prayer and the WMS Aim and Purpose were repeated in unison. Mrs. Needham read a poem, Peaceful Countryside. Mrs. John Forster continued the study on native peoples. The spiritual- ity of the Indians was explained by different religious Indian leaders. They told how some of their ancient customs had been incorporated into the Christian worship service. One writer told of his work visiting Indians in prisons and how he tried to raise their self esteem. She closed with a Sioux prayer. As Love was the theme of the meeting, Mrs. Philip Steer sang a very fitting solo, Love Lifted me, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Harry Lavis, Mrs. Philip Steer, and Mrs. Ira Dickie, Mrs. Steer sang another lovely solo, His Name is Wonder- ful. Mrs. Needham presented the Bible study based on 1. John 4, verses 7 - 21. The ladies were divided in groups of four and given questions on this scripture. Interest- ing discussions were held and then answers heard. Nineteen ladies answered the rollcall with a Bible verse with the word, love. Mrs. Lloyd MacDougall reported that twenty-two more Bibles had been ordered for the church. Cards were passed to be signed for Mrs. Fraser MacKinnon and Mrs. Donald J. Maclntyre who are hospital patients. A 90th birthday party for Mrs. William Maclntyre is planned for March 22, 2 - 4 p.m. in South Kinloss. Committee mem- bers are: Mrs. John Mowbray, Mrs. Allan MacDougall, Mrs. Herb Buckton, Mrs. Donald Bell and Mrs. Lloyd MacDougall. The World's Day of Prayer will be in St. Mary's Church March 7. Mrs. Harry Lavis and Mrs. Leonard Clarke will take part in the service. Mrs. Allan MacDougall gave a good report of the annual meeting of Maitland Presbyterial held in Wingham Jan. 20. Mrs. Harold Howald will be hostess in the church for the March meeting. The offering was received and dedicated by Mrs. John Forster who also gave the courtesy remarks. The hymn, Guide me, 0 Thou great Jehovah was sung and Mrs. Needham closed the meeting with prayer. Frances Marion Hodgins Following a lengthy illness at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, Frances Marion Hod- gins, formerly of St. Luke's Place, Cam- bridge, passed away in her 83rd year on Jan, 28, 1986. She was born on concession 10, Kinloss Township and taught school at Belfast, Teeswater and Carlingford. In 1929 she attended the United Church Training School to become a missionary for the Women's Missionary Society and was appointed to Canada. On April 24, 1930 she was commissioned for the United Church of Canada by the Hamilton Conference. In 4962 she was designated as a deaconess. During her furlough, she studied at Emmanuel College, Toronto, Hartford, Conneticut,* Westhill College in Birming- ham, England and Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. In addition to Ethelbert, Manitoba; Sydney, Nova Scotia; and Hamilton and Toronto in Ontario, she served several areas in Alberta. Prior to her 1968 retire- ment in Cambridge, she was assistant United Church chaplin for the Edmonton hospitals. She was a member of North Dumphries Women's Institute and assisted in the Cambridge Meals on Wheels program. Beloved sister off Florence (Mrs. Ray- mond Snyder) of Waterloo, Mrs. Mary L. Taylor of Ayr, Mrs. Annie Thompson, Mrs. Jennie Bannerman and Ralph L. Hodgins of London. Dearly loved by 22 nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hodgins of Holyrood, broth- ers Harry of Toronto, Charlie of Wingham and sisters Gertrude and Ethel Mildred in infancy. A funeral service was held in St. Paul's United Church, Cambridge on Jan. 30, with her pastor, Rev. Peter Wesley officiating. Committal and interment will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Lucknow in the spring. As expressions of sympathy, donations to St. Paul's United Church or the Arthritis Society would be appreciated by the family. They came home by Kincardine to visit Wilfred MacCarthy of Bervie and formerly of Kingsbridge. He is now recovering at Kincardine hospital. Dan Wilson is now home from sailing for a visit with his family for a month and a half. Cathy Cook celebrated her 27th birthday at Robindales at Goderich. John S. Dalton was away for the week- end at Wesley Drennan's, celebrating Wesley's birthday. Harold and Diane and Dwayne Leddy, and Elaine Leddy were Sunday visitors at Clete Daltons.
