West Wawafiosh Township Council
convened in special session on Jan. 10,
1986, to consider remuneration for munici-
pal officials and employees for 1986. All
members were in attendance, with Reeve
Jim Aitchison presiding.
The order of listing officials and
employees in By -Law 1-85 was followed in
dealing with the various remuneration. The
reeve's honorarium was set at $650.00 per
annum, plus $76.00 per meeting for 12
regular meetings and $15.00 per meeting
over and above 12. Councillors' honoraria
will be $650.00 per annum, plus $50.00 per
meeting for 12 regular meetings and
$15.00 per meeting over 12. Each member
of council will receive $35.00 per meeting
for attendance at committee meetings to
which they have been appointed. The
clerk -treasurer's salary will be $18,060.00
per annum, plus $35.00 per meeting for all
evening meetings, 30c per mile mileage,
100 per cent OHIP and four weeks'
vacation. The fenceviewers' and livestock
evaluators' remuneration is unchanged.
The road superintendent will receive $9.90
per hour in 1986 plus four weeks' vacation
and 100 per cent OHIP. The grader oper-
ator's wage will be $9.55 per hour. 100 per
cent OHIP and two weeks' vacation. Casual
labour rate was set at $5.00 per hour and
the dump superintendent's at $6.00 per
hour for 1986, plus $20.00 for meetings
attended and 30c per mile mileage.
By -Law # 1-86 was given first, second
and third reading on motion of Councillors
Hamilton -Seeger and Cranston and car-
ried.
Motion by Councillors Raynard and,
Brindley moved, That West Wawanosh
Township council hereby authorizes Roger
Pannabecker's wage as part-time winter
help, to be raised from $5.00 per hour to
$6.00 per hour, effective i'anuary 1, 1986.
Motion by Councillors Raynard and
Cranston, That West Wawanosh Township
council hereby directs the clerk to write to
County Engineer Robert Dempsey, with
regard to the snow problem the township is
encountering on the 10th concession at the
corner of county road 22, which has arisen
since the construction by the county of said
county road 22; and further that a reply be
requested. Council carried the motion.
Councillor Cranston adjourned to Feb. 4
at 9:30 a.m.
The regular February session of West
Wawanosh Township council took place on
Feb. 4, in the office in the municipal
works garage. All members were in at-
tendance, Reeve Aitchison presided.
No member declared a conflict at this
time.
The minutes of the two sessions held
Jan. 7 and Jan. 10 were adopted as printed
on motion of Councillors Cecil Cranston
and Rhea Hamilton -Seeger.
Bill Robinson attended the meeting rep -
WI list problems of youth
The February meeting of St. Helens
Women's Institute was held on Feb. 6 at 2
p.m. in the hall. The meeting opened with
the Ode and Mary Stewart Collect followed
by rollcall answered by a problem of the
youth of to -day. Problems mentioned were
unemployment, drugs and peer pressure.
Minutes of the last meeting and the
treasurer's report were given by Muriel
Moffat. The correspondence included liter-
ature about the home economics seminar in
February at London on, New Way to Sew,
which is open to anyone for a fee of $21.
Also read was a notice of planning
meetings for future land use in West
Wawanosh Township. The training course
for the next 4-H project, Etiquette for the
80's, will be attended by Luba Strutton and
Lila Rintoul as leaders. It was decided to
start card parties this month on every other
Monday evening.
Minutes of Yesteryear were given by
Celia Aitchison for the period from April
1958 to March 1959. As the January
meeting was cancelled due to the weather,
the topic for January, Resolutions, was
given by Edith Cooper. She read of the
resolution by the Federated Women's
Institute of Ontario to call for a meeting
with leaders of the three provincial political
parties to develop a time frame for positive
action promised on behalf of farmers.
A second resolution requested that the
Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources
strengthen the protection rights of land-
owners in rural areas.
Also read was an article on a New Year's
resolution we can all make - one of
honoring good manners, propriety, decor-
um and decency. It defies all components
of social degeneracy currently seen in the
world to -day.
The topic for February, World Affairs,
was given by Elaine Errington in the form
of current events from around the world,
concluding with a humorous comparison of
the style of women's clothes of to -day with
those worn by the bag ladies on the city
streets.
Elaine also brought the contents of the
corner stone of Calvin United Church at St.
Helens. They consist of newpapers of the
area, including the Lucknow Sentinel,
dated July 1898 which made most interest-
ing reading and had unbelievable prices
such as yard goods 25c a yard and a man's
suit, best quality for $5.
After singing 0 Canada and the Grace,
lunch was served by the hostesses Norma
Raynard and Barb Tyler.

Bake sale planned at Brookside
The Dungannon Women's Institute held
their February meeting in the United
Church with 11 members present. The

Plans were made to hold a dessert
euchre and bake sale at Brookside School
during the spring break.
Material was donated to make a quilt to
sell tickets on. Myrtle Kerr and Peg
Purdon were named as the committee to
look after getting the quilt made and quilt-
ed
Lois Lee was convener for this Canadian
industries program and chose as her topic,
A day's work for a day's pay. She gave an
amusing and informative account of her job
in a factory. Lois then demonstrated
recovering a lawn chair using nylon strips.
Hostesses Lois Lee and Jean Errington
served a delicious snack of coffee, cheese,
crackers, fruit and relishes.

ted last year, and also to do some work on
the ball field. The club is seeking financial
assistance from the surrounding municip-
alities toward these projects. Council
approved on a motion by Councillors
Cranston and Bruce Raynard, That the
Township of West Wawanosh hereby
authorizes a grant of $1,000.00 to be paid
to the AubutpI ions -C b to assist in extra
maintenance to the ball OA, and comple-
tion of the refreshment booth.
Items which were dealt with in corres-
pondence included a request from the
village of Lucknow to participate in a needs
study for low rental housing in the area.
Council concurred with the idea, and
agreed that the township would partici-
pate. Also from Lucknow, a letter request-
ing review of the percentage breakdown for
operating costs at the arena. Councillors
Harry Brindley and Hamilton -Seeger mov-
ed, That the council of the township of
West Wawanosh hereby directs that
Lucknow village council be informed that
the 19 per cent share of arena costs now
paid by West Wawanosh is considered ade-
quate, and therefore that such rate of 19
per cent remain unchanged.
The road superintendent raised the
question of construction on the boundary
road which had been mentioned at the
January meeting. After lengthy considera-
tion Councillors Raynard and Cranston
moved, That the township of West Wawa -
nosh hereby agrees to constribute
$15,000.00 for road construction in 1986 on
the boundary road between West Wawa -
nosh and Colborne, provided that the West
Wawanosh road superintendent is in
charge of the 1986 work on the road
re -construction to be done, plus mainten-
ance for the tentative period of April 1 to
Nov. 30.
The road superintendent had obtained
two quotations for six grader tires from
Willits Tire Service, Lucknow, and MacAr-
thur Tire Service, Owen Sound. Councillors
Brindley and Hamilton -Seeger moved,
That the road superintendent is hereby
authorized to purchase six 12 -ply grader.
tires from Willits Tire Service at the quoted
price of $383.00 each.
Road accounts in the amount of
$24,339.34 were authorized for payment on
motion by Councillors Hamilton -Seeger
and Brindley.
The building inspector was authorized to
issue a building permit to Helm Welding
Limited, for a fabricating building, on a
motion by Councillors Brindley and Hamil-
ton -Seeger.
Clerk Joan Armstrong was authorized to
advertise for applications for a person to
count the dogs in the township for the year
1986 on a motion by Councillors Hamilton -
Seeger and Raynard.
Councillor Hamilton -Seeger reported on
the committee meeting for the Auburn
Community Memorial Hall which she
attended in January. Representatives to
the Lucknow Health Centre Committee,
and the Lucknow & District Fire Commit-
tee reported also on meetings attended in
January. Councillor Brindley reported on
the Blyth and District Fire Area meeting,
also attended in January.
The general accounts of $7,931.66 were
authorized to be paid on motion of
Councillors Hamilton -Seeger and Raynard.
