An Indian prayer precedes UCW speaker at village h
The UCW met on Feb. 4 at the home of
Mrs. Russel Chapman. Mrs. Muriel
Thompson opened the meeting with a
poem, Healing Ourselves and led in
prayer, then all joined in the Lord's Prayer.
All sang the hymn, This Is My Father's
World. Mrs. Evelyn Gibb read the Scrip-
ture, Psalm 8. Mrs. Mary Chapman read
an Indian prayer called Pray to the Great
Spirit.
Mrs. Muriel Thompson gave a talk on
Canadian Indians.
All members then sang the hymn Land
of Thy Birth. Mrs. Chapman gave the
offertory prayer for the collection and Mrs.
Ball gave the prayer for the Least Coin.
The rollcall was answered by eight
members naming a Canadian Indian tribe.
The minutes of the last meeting were read
by Mrs. Chapman.
Mrs. Agnes Farrier thanked the hostess
for having the meeting and to all those who
took part in the meeting. Mrs. Muriel
Thompson closed the meeting with prayer.

Second Lieutenant Bradley Smith of
Camp Borden visited last weekend with his
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Russel Chap-
man.
This community is pleased to note that
Mrs. Doris MacKinnon of Lucknow, who
was hospitalized for a week due to an
accident, was able to return home on Sat-
urday.
Mr. and Mrs. John Scheeringa of
Brampton spent the weekend with her
parents Mr. and Mrs. Archie Purdon.
Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Beecroft visited
Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. Kirk Beecroft,
Angela, Jennifer, Janice and Jonathan of
Exeter.
Mrs. John de Boer visited Monday with
Mr. and Mrs. Ron Nicholson, Erin, Ryan
and Craig of Egmondville.

Rally has ideal weather
Ideal weather conditions were experienc-
ed for the St. Helens Poker Rally Feb. 2.
When registration was completed, 362
hands had been sold. Checkpoints in the
rally were manned by Joe and Vicki Hanna
at Jeff Alton's, Angus MacDonald at the
clubhouse and Fred Ward at Earl
Jamieson's.
Winners were Ross Errington St.
Helens, $40 for four of a kind; Doug
Dougherty, RR 6 Goderich, $30 for a full

Michigan teams to play
Atom and Peewee teams from Kalama-
zoo, Michigan will tour the area and play
games with our local teams.
The Atom game will be played Feb. 15 at
9:30 a.m. and the Peewees will play Feb.
16 at 1:30 p.m.
Everyone is invited to come and see how
our boys fare against teams coming from a
city with a population of a couple hundred
thousand.
As a result of the Pewee game, public
skating will not be held Feb. 16.
Mrs. Hector Purdon and Mrs. Cassie
Mowbray back to Strathroy.
Carl McClenaghan arrived home on
Thursday after a week's visit with his
friend Paul Geiger of Winnipeg. While
there, Paul, a truck driver, had to go to
Vancouver so Carl accompanied him there.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl McClenaghan on
Sunday were at Bluevale visiting Susie Fair
me
and family and celebrating Carl's birthday.
Mrs. Barbara Carey of Kitchener visited
on the weekend with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Bill Purdon.
Lucknow Novices are shut out
Ripley 3, Lucknow 0
Ripley hosted the Lucknow Novices for
the first game in the playoffs Feb. 9. Ripley
came up victorious winning the game 3 - 0.
The first period was scoreless. In the
second period Ripley scored all three goals
with Jim Van Sickle scoring two goals and
Keith Thompson scoring one. The third
period was scoreless with both teams
having many chances.
The next playoff game is Feb. 16 in
Lucknow.
