Atoms continue winning ways
Lucknow 5, Wallace 2
The Lucknow Atom As continued their
almost perfect season with two more wins
last week, against Wallace and Howick.
The score against Wallace was 5 - 2.
After a scoreless first period Wallace
opened the scoring at the 8:34 minute
mark. Six minutes later Tom Chilton scored
for Lucknow, assisted by Vince Sticklend.
Lucknow's next goal was scored by
Justin Murray with Chris Stevenson assist-
ing making it a 2 - 1 game at the end of the
second.
Rob Crich scored the third goal with
Justin Murray assisting and Murray scored
the fourth with Chris Steventon assisting.
Chris Stevenson scored the fifth goal for
Lucknow assisted by Rob Crich.
Lucknow 3, Howick 0
The game against Howick on Sunday
proved to be very exciting. The first and
second periods were scoreless, and rough
with three penalties called on each team.
The third period was even worse as the
officials seemed determined to keep
Lucknow in the penalty box for no reason.
However they were not deterred as Chris
Stevenson scored unassisted while two
Lucknow players were in the box. Rob
Crich scored two more goals for Lucknow
assisted by Duane Porter on one and Clint
Murray the other. It was a shut out for
goalies Adam Skillen and Joel Sutton.
Atom Bs still improving
Mildmay 3, Lucknow 2
A much improved Atom 13 team met with
Mildmay in Lucknow Saturday afternoon.
Although the score went against them, the
boys played the best they have yet.
Mildmay started the scoring in the first
period. Their first goal was scored four and
a half minutes into the game and their
second was scored on a deflection popped
up off of five or six -sticks.
The second period's only goal was
scored by Lucknow's Dean Tiffin on a pass
from Mark Bakker. Mark won the face off,
passed. to Dean and the" puck was in the
net three seconds after the face off.
Midway in the third period Mildmay
scored again, making the score 3 - 1. The
boys tried hard to beat Mildmay's goalie
and managed with three minutes left in the
game. Mark Stoll scored assisted by Chris
Humphrey and Nathan Daer. Final score 3
- 2.
Lancers win another pair
Lucknow 10, Ripley 4
The Lucknow Lancers closed out their
regular season play over the weekend with
a pair of victories against Ripley and
K incardine.
On Friday night Larry MacPherson
paced the Lancer attack with four goals
against the Ripley Roosters on route to a 10
- 4 victory. Single goals went to Eugene
Johnston, Pat Murray, Grant Gilchrist,
Steve MacPherson, Kevin Clark and Al
Eadie. Mark Stanley replied with three for
the Roosters and Paul Wilken added one.
Ray Guay played well in net and was called
upon more than once to stop the Roosters
from point blank range.
Lucknow 7, Kincardine 3
Good goaltending was the key to the
victory Sunday night as the Lancers skated
to a 7 - 3 victory over the Kincardine Kings.
Ray Guay was hot in the nets again and
repeatedly robbed the Kings of goals. Brad
Humphrey led the scoring with two goals
and singles went toJim Murray, Greg
Hamilton, Steve Simpson, Larry MacPher-
son and Pat Murray. Don Elliott provided
the half-time show in a third round
heavyweight bout at the close of the first
period.
The Lancers got a bye in the first round
of playoff action and will not play next
weekend.
Bantams take overtime win
The Lucknow Bantams travelled to
Paisley for the second game in their playoff
series Wednesday evening, bringing home
a 7 - 3 victory after playing one 10 minute
period of overtime.
The local boys got off to a very slow start
and were down two goals at the end of the
first.
Thirteen seconds into the second period
Lucknow finally managed to get on the
scoreboard on a goal by Steve Mensinga
from Jeff Gammie. With four minutes left
in the second period, Kevin DeJong tied up
the score on a pass from Jim Sinnett and
Dave MacDougall.
Lucknow finally appeared to get their
game together in the third period, with
Scott Gibson changing the score assisted
by Jim Sinnett and Dave MacDougall.
With just 1:57 left, Paisley managed to tie
the game up.
At this point it appeared to be either
team's game. Lucknow finally got into their
own style .'of game in the ten minute
overtime and with Paisley appearing to
tire, the locals pumped in four goals by
Kirk Livingston, two, Chopper Murray and
Jeff Gammie to give them the victory.
Assists went to Sam Murray two, Kevin
DeJong two, Mark MacConnell and Wayne
Nivens.
Craig Irwin in nets played a good steady
game, after having just recovered from the
flu bug, stopping a lot of shots.
