Facility's condition prompts council concern
•from page 1
the general reaction from council after the
Kinettes requested the use of the top floor
of the town hall for a Valentine's Day dance
to be held Feb. 14.
Barb Helm of the Kinettes sent the letter
which pointed out that because only a
nominal fee for refreshments would be
charged, the facility would be without
charge.
There were some concerns on council's
part about the condition of the top floor
room after the last youth dance sponsored
by the scouts.
Council agreed to donate use of the
facility under the condition that the
Kinettes be held responsible for any
damages and that the dance's patrons,
aged 11-15, be properly chaperoned.
Fire equipment fund
Reeve Herb Clark told council that the
Ontario Fire Marshall's Office has advised
the municipality that two of the trucks
presently used by the Lucknow and District
Fire Department are quickly becoming
inadequate under the marshall's code of
standards.
The fire marshall's office said that the
vehicles have a remaining lifespan of about
five years.
Fire Chief Bud Hamilton estimated a
new tank truck to cost $14-15,000, said
Clark.
The fire marshall's office also advised
the municipality to set up an account for
fire vehicles now and contribute to the
account yearly until the new equipment is
purchased.
• "If we put $1,000 away per year, in five
years we'd have the money. We should be
budgeting now we don't have to find
the money all at one time," said Clark.
Councillor Ab Murray said he under-
stands the tanker is not a mandatory piece
of equipment.
"If
If we're setting money aside for a
surplus like that, I don't think we can do
that with taxpayer's money," said Murray.
Council decided to ask the auditor to look
at setting up an account during the next
visit to the village. Council also asked fire
board representative Murray to suggest
the account to each of the other. three
municipalities contributing ',to the fire
department's funding.

New door-to-door
campaign stasis
The Ontario March of Dimes will
mount a door-to-door Ability Fund
campaign in Lucknow and Dungannon
beginning January 22, 1986. As well,
rural areas will receive appeal letters.
Laura Lee Cayley and Bernice Davies,
Campaign Co -Chairpersons, are looking
forward to full community support for
this very worthwhile charity. "Every
community has physically disabled
residents and Lucknow is no exception.
Approximately one in ten adults in
Ontario are physically disabled. The
Ontario March of Dimes helps physical-
ly disabled adults develop their abilities
through a variety of services. They
provide assistive devices such as wheel-
chairs, ramps and electronic aids;
operate summer camps; and have a
microcomputer program for both voca-
tional training and education. The
March of Dimes provides vocational
rehabilitation, medical clinics and con-
sulting and informational services.
The Ontario March of Dimes strives
to develop the ability in disabled adults:
