The Grade 5s from portable one worked
on Christmas centres and concert prepara-
tion this week. They also interviewed their
Grade 1 partners from Mrs. Young's class
to see what they thought about Santa.
Claus.
Mrs. Clarke's Grade 2, Room 4 Alphabet
held a hot dog sale this week. The class are
sending the extra money from the sale, to
help the people in. Colombia. On Thursday,
Mike Puddy's mum• came to teach how to
make beautiful book marks and cards from
dried flowers! Also,' the Alphabet is happy
to have Krista Ritchie back, and to hear
about her trip to Alberta. Happy New Year,
everyone!
The annual. Christmas concert was held
on Tuesday evening with a full attendance.
The first number was introduced impres-
sively by large fluorescent letters on a
carousel which was later taken apart and
transformed into trees. The Grade 3, 4 and,..'
5 .choir provided the music while their
classmates enacted Parade of the Toy
Soldiers, The Marvellous Toy, and "Oh
Christmas Tree".
'Mrs. Clarke's Grade 2 class and Mrs.
Cameron's Kindergarten collaborated : to
present, "The Day the Transformers Came •
to Brookside". "Santa and the Snowmo-
bile" was presented by Mrs. Ottewell's
Grade 3 with Doug Barger starring as
Santa Claus.'
Grade 5 acted out a dialogue,, "Tlie
Sneetches" in which Barbara'. Niviirnsµ
starred, in the role of McBean:
Miss Jewitt's Grade -2 class-•presentedx
"Our Christmas Songbook" in a novel way
with slides of the children's paintings ,.to
illustrate the Christtnas songs' they sang.
Grade 7' and 8 put on "The Curious Case
of the Christmas Caper" with music,
provided by, a choir from Grades 5, 6, 7 and
8." Kevin Webster played the ..pari of
Scrooge and Debbie ""Nivins, Bobbi'Anne
Menary, Nicole MiddelcaIT p 'sang a Mex ..
can Christmas song as a trio. Great credit
gores to Mr. Cameron and to the teachers
and classes involved for an outstanding
performance.
Mrs. Blake reports that since "Anne of
Green Gables appeared recently on TV,
the "Anne" books have been very popular.
Brookside. had'two,winners in the Legion
Remembrance Day Literary Contest. Shane
McDougaIl, Grade 5; won third prize
($5.00) for his poster in Junior division..
Scott Strawbridge, Grade 8, : won third
prize ($5.00) for his poem.

On Thursday Mrs. Scott's Grade 5 made
and decorated"gingerbread houses with the
beep
of several of . the Mothers of class
students. This project allowed free rein ,for
creative and imaginative :skirls as . each
student decorated his/her house according •
to " fancy`" and got to, take the = finished
product home. Working grant's of four, the
students shared the icing. chocolate syrup
and candies which .they„used to . complete
colorful, attractive and unique hooses - and
excellent project to develop social 'skills as
well as learning skills.
