The ' Wingham and District Hospital Board has taken a step to ensure prospec- tive board members know what they are getting themselves into. The board agreed last week to send out a job description to all municipal - councils which nominate mem- bers to the board. In the past some new members have not had a very clear idea of their duties, Vice=chairman Mary Lou Thompson told the board. Some have thought they would be required to attend only one meeting a month and that the board shut down for the summer. A four year old Lucknow area girl is in critical condition in a London hospital after she strayed and fell into the holding tank of a chicken cleaning operation. According to Lucknow and District Fire Chief Bud Hamilton, Adria Graham, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Graham of RR 1 Lucknow, fell into the holding tank owned by Roger Cuillerier of RR 3 Holyrood just before the fire department received the call at 9:35 on Oct. 26. After mulling it over for six months - and despite the continued misgivings of some board, members the board of governors at the Wingham and District Hospital has approved setting up a committee to monitor the, performance of the various departments at the hospital. The board -voted last week to establish -a quality appraisal committee, as recom- mended last spring by the board's joint conference committee. November' The new emergency wing at the Wing - ham and 'District Hospital was officially opened on Nov. 2 by Health Minister and Huron -Bruce MPP Murray Elston. The new additon was filled to the front doors with members of the public eager to see the new facility. The members of the acclaimed council of Lucknow agree that the major projects to occupy their attention for the next, three year term are the sewers and the arena. "The rest is everyday business," said new reeve Herb Clark. "The sewers are number one and the arena is going to be under a lot of dis- cussion too. I think the Lions Club has taken a good step there and I want to co-operate with them as much . as pos- sible." Canvassing for donations for the sports complex, estimated to cost from $900,000 to $1 million, will start. on Nov. 22. The intensive campaign to solicit donations and sell lottery tickets for the complex was announced at an orientation meeting for canvassers on Nov. 13. The meeting was held at thej'Lucknow pity Center by the Lions CI wlx ch is sp arheading the drive for funds. "The arena is a must. It' not something that we'd like to have, it's just something that has to be built," said Walter Arnold, Lions Club sports complex fundraising chairman. The club, with help from other service organizations based in Lucknow, hopes to raise at least $300,000 for the project through donations received from canvas- sing and the Sports Complex Lottery. Following Lucknow village council's move to raise the rates to non-residents by 50 per cent, Kinloss resident and Lucknow water user Ab Morton registered a complaint about the hike. "I'm only two. doors out of town and I've always been connected to Lucknow water," he said. "I put a new copper line in and paid for it myself." "I get a letter from council about a 50 per cent increase when the only trouble is up on Quality Hill (Ross Street) with the connection." "He's in the township, that's the reason for the increase," said Councillor Ab Murray at the regular council meeting Nov. 9 after Morton'sletter was read. Performer Bob Finlay of St. Thomas was in town to entertain a crowd at the community center ant! dropped into the Becker's store to play the Grand Prix lottery game.
