Art project utilizes
scrap pieces of paper
The Grade 2/3 class has been
busy in math learning to do ad-
dition with regrouping. In environ-
mental studies we are studying
"Our World" and directions. We
just finished an art project using
only scrap pieces of construction
paper.
The Grade 4/5 class is studying
whales. Did you know that:
Humpback whales' sing in the
water? Of all the whales their's the
longest, loudest, and . most
mysterious song? Some whales
sleep on the surface of the water
and 'SNORE! Did you know that
Blue whales .are bigger than the
biggest dinosaur? The -first ances-
tors of whales lived more than 50
million years ago. .
.The ' Grade 5 and 6 class -.are
looking forward to starting a new
language arts unit on C.S. Lewis.
They will be 'viewing The Lion,
Witch and the Wardrobe and The •
Silver. Chair: After seeing the
videos, they will complete a follow-
up based on these novels. Our class
would like to congratulate Heather
Sande on being chosen as a junior
representative at the Art. Camp in
Wiarton. She will spend three days
at the Outdoor Education Centre
with other junior . Students from
across the county. They will learn
some new art and craft ideas;
How time flies. The first term is
almost done. The Grade 8 course of
study is well underway end some
units have already been. completed.

They .include a study of. famous
Canadian women, how we got
responsible government in Canada,
and how people locate themselves
geographically in the world. Many.
new projects arc now in the works.
One of particular note is the On-
tario Hydro's simulation game,
Energy Pathways. By "playing" we
can learn.
The Lucknow Central Public
School band gave a very good
performance at this year's
Remembrance Day Service at the
cenotaph. The "Last Post" was
performed by Trevor Askes. and
Andrew .Grist. The entire hand
pedormcd from their repertoire
during the laying of the wreaths.
The band members were afterwards
heartily rewarded -with hot
chocolate and doughnut~ by ment-
hers of the Legion.
The Christmas book fair willbe
at the school from Nov. 28 t Dec.

We received our Gold! Yes,
LCPS completed 60 environmental
projects. We had set our goal for
Christmas and we are pleased to
have obtained it early. Now, we are
working towards Green School
Status, We hope to achieve this by
Earth Day. in April. •Working
together we can make a difference.

Provincial
president talks
to Lucknow
Junior WI
Declining membership in 'the
Junior Women's Institute of Ontario -
was the topic of discussion when
the Lucknow branch met on Nov.
15. .
Kate Tcrvit, the -provincial-
president, was guest speaker. She
said membership has declined to
143 in only nine branches. At the
annual meeting, a vote was held
about the future of the provincial
organization. Tervit noted that al-
though the majority agreed with the
continuation at the provincial level,
they were unable to fill the position
of first vice-president.
Shc listened to the concerns of
the. local members and asked for
suggestions on how the organization
can best meet its mandate of per-
sonal growth and leadership.
This meeting, hosted by Janice
Blake, .. was also the annual
Christmas pot luck dinner for the
group: Members exchanger cookies
and recipes.
Plans for the upcoming seniors'.
Christmas party on Nov. 28, at 7:30
p.m. at the Lucknow Town Hall,
were discussed and finalized. The
local junior women's institute cook-
book will also be available at this
event. '
The meeting closed with revealing
the identity of this year's secret pals
and theselection of new ones for
the upcoming year. - -
