Among its many projects the group built bird and bat boxes for their community, assisted with tree planting as part pf the Lucknow Greenway project, undertook a beach cleanup on Lake Huron and made donations to local wildlife rehabilitation centres. Others receiving the certificates were: the Maitland Trail As- sociation; Tony and July Emond of Elma.Township; Glen Warwick of Bluevale; Don Eadie of Tumberry Township "and Martin Fronk of Minto Township. . "The goal of the MVCA is to conserve watershed soil and water. resources," noted MVCA vice -chair Ivan Suggitt. Jos managed to throw a number of the„ gang off the bridge, and the rest retreated' back the way they came. - Jos also gained fame for his victories in various officially staged competitions, such as the one on the Quebec City waterfront, in which he defeated the boxing champion of the Royal Navy. The bare knuckled match went 17 rounds, and was watched by thousands of cheering spectators. Jos Montferrand, the 19th century Canadien lumberjack, became a folk hero in his own time, and after his death the oral tradition carried tales of his exploits across Canada and over the border to the lumber camps of New England, Michigan and Wisconsin. By 1900, he was a legend. Even his name had undergone a transformation, to Big Joe Muffcron, Joe Maufree, or. sometimes, Joe Murphey. Klopp: existing •laws are out of date .from page 5 • • parties and will come into effect in the next year. The : existing laws were made years ago and are out of date. For example, the existing law does not ' permit a person to appoint, in ad- vance, someone to make personal care decisions for, them if they become mentally incapable. The new law allows this. The new law confirms that a person's wishes wilt be respected if they become in- capable of expressing them. The existing law gives few options to family members_ if they need to get legal authority to make. decisions. The new law provides more choices. The new law protects the rights of those who are mentally -incapable. The new Office of the Public Guardian & Trustee will apply for guardianship only as a'last resort, when it is clear that a person needs it and there is no one else willing :-r!
