25 years of `swinging'

Ileel, toe, heel', toe, slide, slide,
slide; heel, we, heel, toe, slide,
slide,'slide; left hands, right hands,
both hands, both knees; do si do,
go left! -
These words were the ones from
caller Niva McVittic that launched
the 25th anniversary celebrations of
the Huron Bruce Swingers last
Week. Over 100 lovers of dancing,
sitting on chairs around the outer
limits of the Brookside gymnasium,
took to the, floor immediately on
McVittie's invitation.
"The Huron Bruce Swingers was
started by four Ripley . area
couples," says June Gilchrist, one
of the charter members. "We were
travelling from Purple Grove to
Hanover weekly to dance." One
evening this question was posed -
"Why• drive this far? Let's have a
club of our own," This was the
beginning of the Huron Bruce
Swingers who first met in the Luck -
now public.school 'and have since
transferred to Brookside..

recognized during 25th
anniversary celebrations fast
week. Bob and June Gilchrist,
Isabel Kilpatrick, and
Catherine and Albert Taylor
received. 25th anniversary
dangles.
The evening's celebration was a
time to renew old acquaintances,
reminisce; about days gone by and
simply enjoy the dancing.
Some of the special guests in
attendance were the group's first
caller - Egbert Jacobs and his wife
Mary, from Millbank; along with
callers Lome and Cecile Lockrey of
Sauble'Beach, Derrick and Daphne
Spencer of Hepworth, Don and
Phyllis Edgar of Pike Bay, and Jean
and Stan Carr of Owen Sound.
The group's current caller, McVit-
tie and her husband Dunc, of
Southampton, are credited with
keeping the weekly gatherings
lively. "Niva's always surprising us
with something," says Gilchrist.
. The Huron Bruce Swingers meet
weekly on Wednesdays at Brook-
side at'8 p.m. Come in.a single or
come in a couple. For $3 each,
you're promised an evening of
dancing, fun and fellowship.
