Municipal Election '94 - Ashfield Township
Reeve an& deputy -reeve face off
Paul; Black
An Ashfield Township farmer,
who has over 20 years experience
as a registered nurse at Alexandra
Marine and General Hospital, is
challenging the current reeve for
that position on Nov. 14.
Forty-two year old Paul Black, of
R.R. 7, Lucknow, says his nine
years on Ashfield Township council
- the past three as deputy -reeve -
give him the experience needed to
meet the challenge of being reeve.
During that tenure, Black was
involved with the fire and
recreation .boards.
"An interest in local township
government and ensuring accoun-
tability of the taxpayers' dollar," is
one reason Black is running for
reeve. He also believes in allowing
the taxpayer to have a choice in the
future leadership of their township.
Black and his wife, Connie - a
hair stylist - have three teenagers,
Denise, Dennis and Drew, who all
help to manage the family farm.
Allan J. Gibson
A man with 24 years council
experience, Allan J. Gibson, is
asking Ashfield Township voters to
re-elect him to another term as
reeve. He has served as councillor
for 10 years, deputy -reeve for four
years, and nine years as reeve, the
last year as Warden of Huron
County. .
The 54 -year-old R.R. 3 Lucknow
farmer wants to see the line held on
taxes in the municipality. Another
term would give him the oppor-
tunity to see the completion' of
Phase lI of the arena project, the
second half of the governments'
infrastructure program and the
possible future implementation of
the 911 program in the county.
Gibson is a member of the Luck -
now District Lions Club and Luck -
now United Church.
He and his wife Nancy, who is a
bookkeeper, are parents to Diane
(Henderson); Glen, and Brenda.
Owen Numan
An R.R. 7, Lucknow farmer
wants to get more involved with the
decision making in Ashfield
Township. Owen Numan, 39, a
farmer and school bus driver has
thrown his hat into the ring for
councillor. .
Numan says he'd like to keep
taxes down and services up in the
municipality.
He and . his. wife, Henny, are
parents to three girls and one boy,
ranging in age from four to 13.
Mrs. Numan is a homemaker and
part time registered nurse.
Paul Frayne
Current councillor Paul Frayne
seeks re-election to that position id
the '94 municipal race.
He says his past three years as a
councillor have been a' "valuable
learning experience," and cites an
interegt in what is happening in thc
township as his reason for running.
The 40 -year-old R.R. 3, Goderich
farmer is married to Anita. They
have three children, Gene, Mary
Frances and Kevin.

Art Simpson, of R,R. 3, Goderich,
was acclaimed to the position of
deputy -reeve of Ashfield Township.

Philip F. McCann
An interest in township affairs,
particularly road improvements,
landfill, and fire protection led •48 -
year -old Philip McCann to seek his I
first term on. Ashfield Township
council.
He cites cxperience•as a building
inspector - five years for Ashfield
and some time for Huron Township
- as giving him some knowledge of
township affairs.
McCann and his wife, Geraldine,
have three sons - Mike, Bryan and
Paddy. He is employed by Sifto
Canada and also owns and operates
his own masonry business.
For five years he devoted his time
to. , being leader of the 1st
Kingsbridge Beavers.

Ben Van Diepenbeek
Ben Van Diepenbeek says his
past term on council gave him the
knowledge and experience neces-
sary to make a contribution to the
municipality of Ashfield Township. '
"I have a' keen interest in serving
the community," says Van Diepen-
beek.
During his past term, the 44 -year-
old farmer served on the joint
recreation board and the Huron
County Home• and Farm Safety
committee.
Van Diepenbeek .and his wife,
Mary Anne, of R.R. 3, Goderich,
have four sons, Mark, Tom, Ben
and Mike.

Three
running
for two
positions
Residents in Lucknow and Kin-
loss will vote for two trustees' •on
the Bruce Grey Roman Catholic
Separate School Board.
Gary 1'. Fischer
"With five children attending
school, I feel now is the time to
volunteer my time towards
providing a quality christian
education at the least cost for your
children and mine," says 34 -year-
old Gary T. Fisher.
Fischer says that although he has
not served as a school trustee, he
has demonstrated leadership and
financial management skills in
volunteer positions with. other or-
ganizations.
He is past chair of the Bruce
County Milk Producers, first vice of
Chepstow District Lions Club,
treasurer for Ontario Organic
Farmers Co-op in Durham, and
treasures for Bruce County Agricul-
ture in the class/roots of Bruce.
Fischer, who is also an
electrician, farms with his wife,
Joan. They run a mixed certified
organic farm on 300 acres in
Greenock Township, south of
Chepstow. Mrs. Fischer is also
employed as a secretary.
Their family includes Michael,
13, Joanna, 11, .Katie, 8, Beth, 7,
and Amy, 4.
School board
acclamations
Vicky Culbert was acclaimed to
her position as trustee on the Huron
County Board of Education for
Ashfield, West Wawanosh and East
Wawanosh Townships.
Louise Martin was acclaimedas
separate school trustee for Ashfield,
West Wawanosh, Colborne, Hullet
and Clinton municipalities.
Don Stobo was acclaimed as
public school trustee on the Bruce
Board of Education for Lucknow,
Kinloss, Teeswater and Culross.
Len Kelly
A 66 -year-old retired dairy
farmer, Len Kelly, seeks re-election
as trustee of the separate school
board for Bruce -Grey.
"I have many years experience to
offer and the time to serve on any
board committees," says Kelly.
"Most of my years on the board
were served on the personnel com-
mittee on salary negotiations for
board employees," he says.
Kelly has 25 years experience as
trustee for separate schools: 67-68
for the combined Greenock RCSS
board; 69-88 for Bruce Grey RCSS
board; 91-94 trustee for Bruce Grey
RCSS board. He was chairman of
the above board in 75-76 and 86-
87.
He is a charter member of the
Chepstow and District Lions Club.
Kelly and his wife Florence have
four sons and two daughters.
Christine .Zettel
Christine Zettel, . a 35 -year-old
homemaker and dairy farmer, just
completed her first three years as
trustee on the Bruce -Grey RCSS
board. "I've enjoyed being part of
the team of trustees and want to
continue making' contributions at
this level on behalf of children and.
parents in the Bruce -Grey riding;"
says Zettel.
Zettel is an active member of
Mary Immaculate Parish, Chepstow,
on the eucharistic minister team and
as `marriage preparation' course
instructor. She also acts as a volun-
teer at the schools her children
attend.
Zettel and her husband Ted farm
at R.R. 1 Chepstow. They have six
children: Sam, 15, Marie, 13', Peg-
gie, 11, Adam, 10, Teddy, 8, and
Mark, 4.
