The cows sold $1.00 lower. Thursday the veal• were selling on a steady market, Iamb and sheep were also selling steady. Friday saw the stockers selling on a fully steady trade. • . Carrick resident named county forage master -\Congratulations to Bart and Anne- Mie Dirven of Carrick Township for being chosen as this year's Bruce County Forage Master. The selection was based on a com- bination of an analysis of their first cut hay, a visual 'assessment. of the hay sample and of the regrowth in the field, and on the calibre of their forage ' production package. The Dirvens came out on top of a field of 12 contestants from all parts of Bruce County. Bart will go on to compete at the Ontario Forage Masters Com - FBruce County OMAF ARM REPORT petition, to be held at Lhc Royal Winter Fair in Toronto. Credit Management Skills Last w•inler 30 farm managers from Bruce County learned to Shar- pen their Credit 'Management and Negotiating Skills at a workshop held in Walkerton: The, successful two-day workshop is being held again on Dec. 14 and 21 at the OMAFRA Board Room, Walkerton. The workshops arc designed to help participants to learn effective use of credit in the modern farm business and legal ramifications for both borrowers and lenders. Teaching' acanis consist of specialists from OMAFRA, com- mercial lawyers, bankers and `, fanners experienced in farm finance. They 'will explain security and debtors' right,, aid in negotiating and structurin g credit, as well as sources, costs and effective • i use of credit. The highlight from last year's seminar, Ted Oldfield, lawyer from Waterloo will be speaking at this seminar. . Class size is restricted to 12 to 20 farmers to provide maximum lear- ning opportunities. Registration for the two-day workshop, including two lunches and GST is $40.00 or $55.00 for two, if they arc attending from the same farm. To' -obtain more information or to register, contact OMAFRA in Walkerton 881-3301 or 1 -800-265- 3023. • Grower pesticide safety courses offered this winter Grower pesticide safety courses will be offered throughout l-lurod County again this winter. Thcrc will be two "early bird" courses offered. The first one will 1 be on Nov. 14 and the second one will be Dec. 2. Both courses will begin at 8:45 a.m. at the Ontario. Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs office in Clinton. No other course dates have been set, however, more courses will be offered throughout the county during January; February and, March of 1995. If you need a new safety cer- tificate or a renewal, call the Clin-' ton office if you would like to register for either course. The course fee -is $4Q and advance registration is required. Present legislation requires that one person per farm unit must be certified Where a farmer uses Schedule 1, 2 and 5 pesticides.
