Father Harry Reitzcl, C.R. Alton family has built a new slatted -Mica - Learning about tools Port Albert Lumberjacks The last, three meetings of the Port Albert Lumberjacks have been a joining of knowledge, experience and hands-on. In the second meeting everyone .practiced measuring to familiarize themselves with the imperial system compared to the metric system. The 'leader showed everyone how to properly transfer a pattern and taught everyone about "kerf." We had a great time at John MacDonald's in Port Albert for our third meeting. An accomplished carpenter who has built his own house and workshop, Mr. Mac- Donald showed us the uses of dif- ferent tools, everything from hand- saws and squares, to planes and other electrical equipment, and how to pse them safely. ' He also instructed us on different types of hardwoods and softwoods •and which ones were best for cer- tain projects. Did you know that you can identify wood by its grain, smell and taste? Thanks to Mr. MacDonald and his answers to all of our questions. For the fourth meeting at Peter Adams' home, vile obtained some valuable hands-on experience with squares, hand -saws, coping saws,/ hammers, and drills. After explanations and ,some. demonstrations from our leaders and youth leaders, we were let loose to practice all of what we had learned on some scraps of wood. So now the Lumberjacks are ready to saw and nail our projects to the finish. Attends sister-in-law's funeral in Streetsville Mrs. 'Wallace Milligan attended the funeral of her sister-in-law, Grace Ladner of .Streetsville, on Monday, at the Nazerene Church in. Brampton.. Mary Lou Glover of Sarnia and Rosale Ladner of Sarnia took Mrs. Milligan to Streetsville. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gallea of Fruitland, a niece of Hazel Laid law's, were visitors on Sunday with Clifford and Hazel. .Hazel Laidlaw, along with Mrs:' Neil and Mrs. Bann of the Gideons, took part in handing out New Tes- taments to the nurses graduating at the Wingham Hospital. Hilda Grant of Wingham was the instructor. Don and Jean Ross returned home Sunday evening from a bus tour to Branson, Missouri. The fall colors. were at their peak, the weather was beautiful and the shows excellent. Bevin and Ann ' Marie Tiffin, Steve Tiffin and 'Kendra, Dean Tiffin and Angie spent the weekend in Torontoand visited Joyce Han- son a• patient in the hospital. Whitechurch WI The resolutions meeting of the Whitechurch Women's Institute was held Oct. 18, with Norma. Rintoul as convener and hostess. Vice president Hblen Currie presided. Rollcall was `a resolution to live up to every day' and the motto was `what's ahead of 'us as an institute'. Jean Whi,tby, of Lucknow, district president, was the guest speaker. Contests were conducted by Mrs, Rintoul. Refreshments followed the close of the meeting.
