out on thefamily farm. This past
Year, she did the milking almost
every night. Her parents have a 40-
head milking herd of mostly
purebred Holsteins.
Although working with children is
her calling, Kim says she also
enjoys dairy farming, particularly
when hard work earns results.
Reading and baby-sitting are other
activities she enjoys.
Kim isn't the only new face
within the Huron County Dairy
(Educator program this ' year.
Brenda Bridge of • Tiverton has
resigned as coordinator to pursue
new interests after 6 years of
service. Her enthusiasm brought
new life to the program which has
evolved into an important public
relations tool for dairy farmers in
the county. The • new coordinators
are sisters Lisa Boonstoppel-Pot of
RR 3, Auburn and Tanya Verburg
of RR 1,. Auburn, both of whom are
former Huron County Dairy
Princesses.

OFA: Hydro ignores farmers
The Ontario Federation of
Agriculture is not happy with On-
tario Hydro's announcement last
week that it has reduced rates for
its 101 direct industrial customers,
and ignored farmers.
"Ontario Hydro has obviously
forgotten to check its billing slips
lately," said Ed Segsworth a mem-
ber of OFA's executive committee
and chair of the Farm Finance,
Trade and Taxation Committee.
"Agriculture is the largest direct -
billed sector Ontario Hydro has. I
don't know how any company can
treat its major clients this way."
In a news release sent out by
Ontario Hydro on Oct. 17, a
spokesperson said the decreased
rates reflected the financial" pres-
sures on Ontario industries and
would help them recapture com-
petitiveness. It is also intended as
an incentive 'to keep industry and
jobs in Ontario. •
The OFA wants 10 know why
agriculture doesn't qualify under the
criteria.
"Agriculture has suffered con-
siderable commodity price reduction
over' the last 12 months and we arc
under greater pressure than most
industries," Segsworth said. "But
what is really, infuriating is that
Hydro has ignored the tact that our
sector is responsible for over
140,000 jobs on the farm and. a
further 86,000 in the Ontario food
processing sector alone. This does
not count over 356,500 jobs at'
tributed to' food services and' retail
sales. There .is no logic to agricul-
ture being exempt from these rate
reductions."

Trinity Dramateers
Lisa Caesar, youth leader for the
Trinity Dramateers conducted an
interesting game, called bust the
balloon; when the group met last
week.
Inside the balloon was a piece of
paper with an occupation wrote on
it. Each, person acted out their part
while Lisa made a video, which the
group watched later.
Parts for the achievement play
were distributed and the group
chose a title page for their books.
