Kinloss woman wins $10,000
An extra blessing for Thanksgiving
• • by Pat Livingston
A Kinloss Township family had one extra blessing
to count during their Thanksgiving dinner. Catherine
and David . McAdam were the lucky winners of
$10,000 on a scratch ticket.
As they enjoyed a huge family gathering, Mrs.
McAdam said their son Kelly was scratching an.
instant "Bingo" ticket she had purchased at
MacAdam's Mini Mart in Ripley (no relation). He
was taking a lot of ribbing from others around the
table.
When the. numbers appeared to be a match, Mrs.
McAdam said everyone around the table started
checking, them. Still not sure, her husband and son
drove to MacAdam's Mini Mart to confirm the
winning ticket.
"It was a pretty nifty feeling," said Mrs. McAdam
when it was confirmed the scratch ticket was, worth
$10,000. She and Kelly made the trip to Toronto the
Tuesday after Thanksgiving to collect the cheque.
The McAdam family - Catherine, David, Kelly and
Carrie and their two foster children, Tanya Bull and
Brian Dodge - was delighted with the surprise.
The McAdams moved here, from Thedford, in June '
having purchased the former Cecil Congram farm.
Mrs. McAdam said the house needed considerable
renovation so they basically "camped. out" all sum-
mer. Kelly, who normally works out during the
summer months to make spending money, was put to
work helping out on the renovation project.
Mrs. McAdam said they had no difficulty in'
deciding how •to spend their winnings. They gave half
to Kelly for his hard work and the balance will go
towards the renovations.
Both Catherine and David were 'raised in a "rural -
type" area. "We always wanted to have a farm, and
this year we were able, to fulfill that wish;" said Mrs.
McAdam.. "We love it up here; we love the farm."
Mrs. McAdam said their Thanksgiving this year
centred on a lot of things -."especially family, neigh-
bors .and friends."
