(Pat Livingston photo) Kinloss woman wins $10,000 An extra blessing for Thanksgiving • • by Pat Livingston A Kinloss Township family had one extra blessing to count during their Thanksgiving dinner. Catherine and David . McAdam were the lucky winners of $10,000 on a scratch ticket. As they enjoyed a huge family gathering, Mrs. McAdam said their son Kelly was scratching an. instant "Bingo" ticket she had purchased at MacAdam's Mini Mart in Ripley (no relation). He was taking a lot of ribbing from others around the table. When the. numbers appeared to be a match, Mrs. McAdam said everyone around the table started checking, them. Still not sure, her husband and son drove to MacAdam's Mini Mart to confirm the winning ticket. "It was a pretty nifty feeling," said Mrs. McAdam when it was confirmed the scratch ticket was, worth $10,000. She and Kelly made the trip to Toronto the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to collect the cheque. The McAdam family - Catherine, David, Kelly and Carrie and their two foster children, Tanya Bull and Brian Dodge - was delighted with the surprise. The McAdams moved here, from Thedford, in June ' having purchased the former Cecil Congram farm. Mrs. McAdam said the house needed considerable renovation so they basically "camped. out" all sum- mer. Kelly, who normally works out during the summer months to make spending money, was put to work helping out on the renovation project. Mrs. McAdam said they had no difficulty in' deciding how •to spend their winnings. They gave half to Kelly for his hard work and the balance will go towards the renovations. Both Catherine and David were 'raised in a "rural - type" area. "We always wanted to have a farm, and this year we were able, to fulfill that wish;" said Mrs. McAdam.. "We love it up here; we love the farm." Mrs. McAdam said their Thanksgiving this year centred on a lot of things -."especially family, neigh- bors .and friends." To date prizes total $107.8 million The Ontario Lottery Corporation says that, to date, Instant Bingo has generated over $231 million in sales, with players claiming more than 5107.8 millions in prizes. Election '94 Seven seek council seat in Lucknow Lucknow's incumbent reeve Stuart Reavie was the only one acclaimed to a spot'on village council when nominations for the Nov., 14 election closed. • Seven residents will vie for four seats at Lucknow's council table. They include incumbents Lillian Abbott and Lynn Peck. New faces this time around are Robert Jones, Rick McMurray, Tom Pegg, Raylene Rebryna and Paul Zinn. Incumbent ,Donald Stobo was acclaimed as trustee for the ,.public school board for Lucknow, Kinloss, Tecswater and Ctlros,s. • Three people are running for separate school board trustee. They arc Gary T. Fischer, Len Kelly and Christine Zettel. This trustee represents the municipalities of Lucknow, Ripley, Paisley, Teeswater, Huron,' Bruce, Culross, Kinloss and Greenock. • A ratepayers meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 1 in Lucknow. Will vote for reeve and councillors in Ashfield Twp. • Only one per'son was acclaimed to Ashfield Township council and that was Arthur Simpson, of R.R. 3, Godcrich, as deputy -reeve. Incumbent reeve Allan Gibson and current councillor Paul Black will face off for the position of reeve. The four seeking three council seats include 'incumbents Ben Van Dicpcnbcek and Paul Frayne. Newcomers are Philip McCann and Owen •Ntdman. Vicky Culbert was acclaimed as public school trustee for Ashfield, West Wawanosh and East Wawanush townships. Louise Martin was acclaimed as separate school trustee for Ashfield, West Wawanosh, Colborne, Hullett and Clinton municipalities. At press time, no firm plans were• in place for a ratepayers or all candidates meeting. Current and former reeves face off in Kinloss Twp. Kinloss Township residents will have to cast ballots for all council positions in the Nov. 14 election. Incumbent reeve Jim Boyle is being challenged by former reeve Barry Johnston. / Dave Eadie had registered for the office, but withdrew his papers on Monday. John Husk, a current councillor, and Leo Murray will vie for .the position of deputy -reeve, a new council designation this term. Eight registered seeking one of the three council seats. However,. on. Monday, Bill Haldenby withdrew his name. Those running for a spot at the table are incumbent Brian Wolfe and newcomers Gerald Doelman, David Hanna, William MacPherson, Gerald Mowbray, Andrew Page and Perry Archer. Donald Stobo • was acclaimed as public school trustee for the municipalities of Kinloss, Lucknow, Culross and Teeswater. Three Greenock Township residents seek the position of separate school trustee for the •municipalities of •Kinloss, Lucknow, Ripley, Teeswater, Paisley, Huron, Bruce, Culross and Greenock. They arc Gary T. Fischer, Len Kelly and Christine Zettel. Nov. 3 is the tentative date for a ratepayers meeting. Five new faces seek council seat in W.W. Walter Elliott, a current West Wawanosh Township councillor, will challenge incumbent reeve Bob Hallam when the Nov. 14 election rolls around. • Incumbent Ron Snowden was acclaimed to the position of deputy: recvc. Five newcomers will vic for three scats at this municipality's table. Thcy include Kevin Shicls, Douglas Miller, William Dankwardt, Stuart Alton and Gordon Hunt. • In this municipality, residents will be represented by Vicky Culbert on the public school board of education and Louise Martin on the scpara:c school board. • Al press timc, no information was available about a ratepayers or al: - candidates meeting.
