New needlework guild sponsors
'Art of the Spirit' presentation
by Pat Livingston
A new needlework guild is in its walking stages in
Lucknow.
The idea germinated this fall at St. Peter's Anglican
Church, Lucknow.
Rev. Linda Hill stresses that although 'the guild is
named St. Peter's, "anyone who likes to embroider,
quilt or do any kind of fine needlework is welcome to
come and participate in this group effort."
The guild has three aims: learning - the educational
.aspect to promote creativity and• inspiration;
friendship; and the opportunity to express one's
spirituality through fabric. "The guild is a vehicle",
for these aims, says Rev. Hill.
In keeping with the educational aspect of the guild,
the group is hosting "Ari of the. Spirit" on Oct. 22.
Thi., is a slide presentation of histor, cii ccnten:-
porary church fabric art, presented 'by Helen Brad-
field, Joan Pringle and Judy Ridout. These Toronto
ladies are the authors of the book "Art of the Spirit"
which chronicles liturgical textile' art in Canada.
The presentation takes place at 2 p.m. at St. Peter's
on Hamilton Street, Lucknow. Tickets are $5 in
advance from Alene Clark 528-3945, or the Sewing
Box, Lucknow. Admission at the door is $6.
The first project of the guild is to create four large
wall -hangings depicting the four seasons of the year.
•When completed, they will hang on the walls of St.
Peter's. "My husband calls them creation hangings",
says Rev. Hill.
Anyone interested in being part of this new need-
lework guild is welcome to call ,Mrs. Clark or Rev.
Hill.
