1912 - 1994
James Huntley Dawson died
peacefully at Pinecrest Manor Nur-
sing Home, on Sept. 19, 1994, in
his 83rd year. Mr. Dawson was a
retired Kinloss Township farmer.
He was born Mar. 12, 1912 in
Kinloss Township, a son of the late
Joshua F. and Mary Jane
(Mirehouse) Dawson.
Mr. Dawson is survived by his
wife Marcia (Munro) of Lucknow;
three sons: W. Curtis and his wife
Sheila, of Wingham; W. James and
his wife Debbie, of London; and
Addin of Lucknow; and a daughter
Lynda L. and her husband Gerald
Hyndman, of Guelph.
He is also survived by six
grandchildren: Mark, Paul and
Justin Dawson, Neil Hyndman,
Nicole Hyndman and Erica Daw-
son; two brothers Bill. Dawson and
his wife Elsie, of London, Gordon
Stuart Dawson and his wife
Mildred, of London; three nieces
and nine nephews.
Mr. Dawson was predeceased by
grandson Douglas Hyndman, and
brothers and sisters, Alex and
Harold Dawson, and Wilda Dawson
and Helen MacLean. `"-
A private funeral service was
conducted by Rev. Peggy Kinsman
on Sept. 21 at the MacKenzie and
McCreath Funeral Home, Lucknow.
Pallbearers were Curtis Dawson,
Addin Dawson, James Dawson and
Gerald Hyndman.
Interment Langside Cemetery.
Robert M. M. Simpson
1920 - 1994
Robert Murdoch MacDonald
Simpson, resident of Kintail, died at
Victoria Hospital, London, on Sept.
20, 1994..He was born at Kintail on
May 11, 1920 and was the son of
the late. Dr. A.A.J. Simpson and
Flora MacLeod:
Mr. Simpson, a life-long farmer
had lived the last few years in
retirement. As well as his farming
duties, he worked at the Sifto Salt
Mine, Goderich, as a shipper from
1960 until 1978.
He was a member of the Ashfield
Presbyterian Church and served
there as an elder. Mr Simpson was
always interested in its welfare and
• always regular in attendance.
A veteran of W.W. II, Mr.
Simpson served in the Royal
'' Canadian Army and later the Royal
Canadian Air Force as Flight Ser-
geant in England and North Africa.
He was a member and Past
President of the Royal Canadian
Legion #309, Past Master of Old
Light Lodge #184 and Past Grand,
Superintendent R.A.M. of Huron
District. #6. He was a member of
the Mocha Shrine Club.
In 1948 he married Jean Bushell
of Lucknow, and is survived by
their six children Jan (Gary Kaye)

Cook) of Ashfield Township and
Arthur (Jackie Dalton) of •Kintail.
Mr. Simpson will be missed by his
25 grandchildren.
Also surviving is a brother
Donald Simpson of Ashfield and 16
nieces and nephews.
Mr. Simpson was predeceased by
two brothers, Arthur and Duncan,
and a sister Margaret.
Masonic and Legion services
were held at the MacKenzie and
McCreath Funeral Home, Lucknow.
Funeral services celebrating his
life were held at Ashfield Pres-
byterian Church on Sept. 24, with
the Rev. Doug MacDonald of-
ficiating. Steve Elliott, a friend and
neighbor spoke of Mr. Simpson's
life ancLvalues.
Boyd and Gary. Carruthers sang
`Beautiful Isle of Somewhere'
accompanied by Mrs. Karen Mar-
tyn. David MacDonald piped out-
side the church and at the cemetery.
Flower bearers were nephews Jim
Simpson and Duncan Simpson and
grandchildren Abby Simpson, Bob-
by Simpson, Jessie Cook, Joan
Ferguson, Rob Kaye- and Jennifer
Dalton.
Honorary pallbearers were Ronald
Alton, Gordon Barger, Barney
Carney, Terry Dalton, Eugene
Frayne, Ronald Forster, Jack Gould,
Charlie Love, Gordon MacGregor,
Bayne MacLennan, Fraser MacKin-
non, John MacKenzie and Joe
0' Keefe.
Active pallbearers were his six
children and his nephews Alex
Simpson and John Simpson. He
was laid to rest in Kintail Cemetery
overlooking the community that he
loved so well. His daughter Cathy
assisted Rev. MacDonald with a
reading at the graveside.
Mr. Simpson was one of the most
modest of men, possessed of a keen
,active mind, a kindly, sympathetic
nature and a retentive and accurate
memory of dates and events of the
past. His interests centered on his
family, his church, his community
and its history. He followed
baseball and • curling with keen
enthusiasm. Above all, he was
proud tobe a good "Scotch Pres-
byterian Grit".
Mary Agnes Frayne
1903 1994
Mary Agnes (Moylan) Frayne, of
Kingsbridge, died at Maitland
Manor Health Care Centre,
Goderich, on Sept. 26, 1994, in her
92nd year.
She was the beloved wife of the
late • Gilbert Frayne, dear step-
mother of Donald and Rose Frayne
of Kingsbridge, Douglas and 'Jean
Frayne of Brantford, and Eugene
and Betty Frayne of Kingsbridge.
Mrs. Frayne is also survived by
13 grandchildren, 15 great
grandchildren, a sister-in-law
Leonne Moylan of Sturgeon Falls
and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Frayne was predeceased by
a sister Anne Haylow, brothers Rev.
Thomas Moylan S.J., William
Moylan and one great grand child.
Funeral Mass was celebrated at
St. Joseph's Catholic Church,
Kingsbridge, on Sept. 29, with Rev.
Harry Reitzel C.R. Celebrant.
Pallbearers were Jim Frayne,
Mark Frayne, Michael Frayne,
Patrick Fravne, Stephen Frayne and
Theodore Cull.
Interment St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Donations to St. Joseph's Church
Renovation Fund would be ap-
preciated as expressions of sym-
pathy.
Catherine Jane Purves
1911 - 1994
Catherine (Kitty) Jane Purves,
formerly of St. Helens (R.R. 2,
Lucknow) died at Pinecrest Manor
Nursing Home, on Sept. 30, 1994
in her 84th year.
During the war, Mrs. Purves was
in the army. She had her St, John's
Ambulance training and was a gun
sighter during the blitz of London.
Mrs. Purves was secretary of the
Lucknow Legion (1961-62),
president of the Auxiliary (1960)
and held various other offices. She
was also active in the Lucknow
Horticultural Society serving as
secretary -treasurer in 1968.
She enjoyed doing many crafts,
crocheting and knitting. Mrs. Purves
had a fondness for her flower and
vegetable garden. She particularly
loved to share her knowledge of
history with others.
The West Wawanosh. Township
homemaker was born on Feb. 26,
1911 on the Islc of Man, British
Isles. She was a daughter of the late
Thomas A. and Essie (Gawne)
Moore.
In September of 1944, the former
Kitty Moore married Alexander
Purves at Douglas on the Isle of
Man. He predeceased her in 1987.
Mrs. • Purves is survived by a
sister, Maggie Cain, Isle of Man,
and three sisters-in-law, Vera Pur-
ves and Margaret Purves, both of
Lucknow, and ' Urena Lyons of
Brussels; several nieces and
nephews.
She was predeceased by an infant
son, two brothers and one sister.
The funeral was conducted at the
MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral
Home, Lucknow, by Rev. Peggy
Kinsman of the Lucknow Pres-
byterian Church, where Mrs.,Purves
was a member.
Donalda Moffat was organist for
the service.
Pallbearers were Mel • Lyons,
Russell Phillips, Fred Phillips, Paul
Curran,' Ross Errington and Allan
McDonald.
Interment South Kinloss
Cemetery, Lucknow.
