Voting powers. won't change
The Ministry of Municipal Af-
fairs has vetoed Bruce County
Council's attempt to equalize the
voting powers of its members.
Council now allows one to four
votes per member for recorded
votes, depending on the population
of the ' municipality each reeve
represents. It proposed to change
that system to allow bigger
municipalities more clout.
But Municipal r Affairs rejected
the plan, saying it 'would create
inequities that would not allow
representation by population.
Noting.that some ineml .vould
have the equivalent of 16 ' uLcs, the
ministry said 'one person with 16
votes is not the same as 16 people
with one vote'.
"I feel that such an extreme
disparity among members...should
not exist," said Minister Ed Philip
in a letter released to council at its
Tuesday, Sept. 13 meeting.

Remember those were '72 head-

are material for the '90s as well.
Seemslike one of my old

for Mr. Armstrong when he
fecentiy went through a car wash
and recalled my phobia with this
modern invention.

Armstrong's daily paper, the
Tribune, I spotted what we call a
happy note. Mr. Armstrong
recently reached a milestone in his
life and celebrated his 70th
birthday. Congratulations! You
look much younger..
Other stories of interest included'
one on Eastdale Secondary School
students who were protesting not
being able to wear hats in school;
extension of the blue box
program, and the rising operating
costs of landfill in Welland.
Thanks Mr. Armstrong for your
continued support of our little
paper. By the way,' looking at your
picture again, I just want to share
this personal little comment with
you: You wear your age very well,
and I wouldn't consider using one
. of those men's hair color products.
(That's a joke)
For all of you who remember
Mr. Armstrong, he. asked to be
remembered to you.
