UCW groups meet
Unit 1
Unit 1 of the Lucknow United
Church Women held their Sept. 6
meeting at Maple Breezes. As the
ladies gathered, Elsie Houston
played several familiar songs on the
keyboard.
Following the autumn theme of
the meeting, Gwen Lcnnips read An
appropriate verse.
Jean . McLeod was in charge of
the program. Noma Campbell read
thc scripture and Mrs. McLeod
gave the meditation. She stated we'
must have the spirit of the Master•
to do his work; to lift up the fallen,
encourage the discouraged, use our
gifts for His service and let the
beauty of Jesus shine through. us.
This was followed by prayer.
Grace Gibson read a poem on
Autumn.
Jean Conley played several selec-
tions on her auto harp.
Mrs. McLeod'gave a reading on
the fall season about how the earth
and people prepare for winter - we
reap the fruits of our spring and
summer labor. The leaves with all
their brilliant color fade and they
fall and the trees store up food to
grow new leaves in the spring.
Group leader, Mrs. Lennips, con-
ducted the business. Eleven mem-
bers and four visitors answered the
rollcall with a verse on harvest.
A birthday card was signed for
Isobel Ritchie who will be 95 this
month,
A time of fellowship with the
residents was enjoyed during the
lunehcon.
Unit 2
Unit 2 met in the church parlor
on Sept. 6, with nine members
participating in the educational
theme of the meeting.
The worship service was "School
Days for Young and Old." Taking
part were Helen Todd,lAllene.Brad-
ley, Lois Walden and Phyllis Mor-
rison. I • • .
Mrs. Walden presented various
sources for meeting material. Mrs.
Morrison informed the group that
the 'Mandate Magazine had won
two awards - one for its cover, and
the other for its clarity in black and
white print.
• Rollcall was answered 'with each
person telling of what had become
of her first school.
Mrs: Todd gave her citizenship
report telling about a quilting group,
from George Street United Church
in Peterborough, who stake several
quilts a year. The money goes to
the church stewards.

' The Donnybrook 4-H. club held
their first meeting for the project
Eye on Energy on Sept. 10. The
meeting opened with the members
having to line up alphabetically by
their first names and then by their
last names without talking.
June Robinson gave a description
of the project and the requirements
of the members.
