Angelique Delburgue of Auburn, Angela Stewart of Ber- vie, and Marilyn Martin • of Kingston. After spending five Weeks camping at the van Dam home Shirley (Freeman) Davis returned home to Kingston. Jean Hodgins of Wingham spent Tuesday with Edna and May Boyle.. Winnifred Percy is spending a while with Mr. and Mrs. Don Bertrand and family at Simcoe. ACW The Anglican Church Women met at the church on Thursday afternoon for their annual bale packing. There were 15 boxes packed for Pik- witoni, Manitoba. This was followed by •a short meeting with the president Maureen Collins in charge. She led in The Lord's Prayer and gave a reading "People are like stained glass Win- dows." Pictures were shown from Sleeping Children around the world where the ACW has provided three bed kits, Plans were made for a bazaar later in the fall and preparations 1 a Special service on Oct. 30 when the guest Minister will be the Rev, Alex Hewitt who grew up and attended both school and church here. The October ACW will be on Oct. 12 instead of the regular day Oct. 13. An invitation was received from the Kinlough WMS to their thank offering meeting on Oct. 5 and the Deanery will meet at Meaford on •Oct. 6. Kay Thacker read the minutes of the last meeting and other cor- respondence that she had received during July and August. Lynda Thacker served a delicious lunch. It was so nice to get together. again after •the summer holiday months. The October meeting will be.at the home of Kay Thacker. Pastor and Mrs. Robert Dorman went to Sterling on Friday where they attended the funeral of his uncle. Merle Rhody and her ...granddaughters Dawn and Elaine Rhody visited during the week with Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Brace and family at London. Kby May Boyle INLOUGH Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Lane of Lucknow and Bessie Maulden of here went to Grand Bend on Friday to see the play Oklahoma. Bessie Maulden of here, Nina McDonald of Ripley and Dr. and Mrs. Mac MacDonald of Kincar- dine spent the weekend at Orillia. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Burt of Kincar- dine visited on Monday afternoon with Bessie Maulden. The Myerscough family visited last Sunday with Ross's mother at Brantford. Weekend visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Peter van Dam were Mr. and Mrs. Chris Hartemink and their youngest son Cornelius from Owen Sound, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Freeman of Godcrich. Mr. and Mrs. Peter van Dam attended the third annual Kinlough Korn fest at the home of Bract Engel and LeAnne Haldenby on Sunday. Sara Haldenby returned home from the Christian Horizon Camp at Paisley where she was a counsellor during the summer. Myrtle Percy and Bessie. Maulden accompanied Erlma Haldcnby to the Silver Lake Women's Institute meeting on Wednesday evening. Julia Haldenby and Crystal Hal- denby are both starting first year at Fanshawe College, London. Tanya Haldenby returned to Georgian College; Barrie for her second.year. Crystal Wall returned to Guelph for her second year. Tara Thacker began her first. year at Guelph University. - Angela Brecklcs is off for .her second year at Conestoga College, Kitchener. Best of luck to all these young people. On Saturday Ruby Bonnett and Brian .Schultz were married at Kin - lough Presbyterian Church. Congratulations. The reception was held/ at Ripley Complex. Get well wishes to Melanie Dunkley daughter of Colin and Denise who underwent surgery in Sick Children's Hospital at London on, Thursday. II3 Ethel Isabelle Rutherford 1895 - 1994 Ethel Isabelle Rutherford, of Pinecrest Manor Nursing Horne, a former resident of West Wawanosh Township, died on Sept. 16, 1994 in her 99th year. For many years Mrs. Rutherford was a music teacher in the area. She was a member of the Lucknow Pres- byterian Church. The former Ethel MacPherson was a daughter of the late 'William E. and Isabell (Webb) MacPherson, and was born on Oct. 5, 1895 in West Wawanosh Township. •On Aug. 17, 1921 she married William Rutherford, of West Wawanosh Township, who predeceased her. She is, survived by two sons: Hugh and his wife Irene, of Sharbot Lake, and Grant and his wife Shir- ley, of Odessa; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; a sister-in- law Janet MacPherson of Lucknow, and a daughter-in-law Linda Rutherford of Silver Lake. Mrs. MacPherson was predeceased by two sons: MacPher- son Allan • Rutherford (1949) and John D. Rutherford (1992), and three brothers Ewart (1978), Ross (1983) and Gordon (1984). . The funeral was held at the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home, Lucknow, on Sept. 18. with Rev. Peggy Kinsman and Rev. William Henderson officiating. Larry MacPherson, soloist was accompanied by Donalda Moffat. Pallbearers were. Hugh W Ruther- ford, Scott Rutherford, Scan Ruther- ford, Melvyn Rutherford, Shawn McMurter and Dean McMurtcr. Interment Greenhill Cemetery, Lucknow. HiTECHURCH by Jean floss Mr. and Mrs. Ted McClenaghan .of Kitchener visited last weekend with Mildred McClenaghan. ' .. UCW Eleven members of the Whitechurch UCW met on Sept. 7 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. El- wood Groskorth in Goderich. Agnes • Farrier gave the call to worship and Margaret Sleightholm read the scripture from' Peter. Various readings were given by Mrs. Sleightholm, Miiss McClenaghan, Gertrude Durnin and Evelyn Gibb. Mrs. Farrier and Mrs. Sleightholm performed a skit entitled "O- ffering". WI International affairs was the theme . of the i Sept. 14 meeting of the Whitechurch WI when they met in Listowel, at the home of Jean McGuire. Rollcall for the meeting was to name a current event. The motto was very well done by Mae Johnson on "a nation cannot - rise above the level of its homes." Helen Currie was nominated to attend the area convention in Underwood on Oct. 4- with Jean Mcguirc as alternate. t A dessert shoot party will be 'held on Sept. 26 andeither shoot or euchre on Oct. 31. Jean McGuire was guest speaker and spoke on the life of Adelaide Hoodless. Her presentation was very thorough and if anyone would like to have Jean speak on this, they could .contact her at her home in Listowel. • SEAT BELTS SAVE ©Ontario OBITUARIES Ralph Edward Haines 1905 - 1994 Ralph Edward Haines of St. Catharines died at Hotel Dieu Hospital, St. Catharines, on Aug. 30, 1994 in his 90th year, Mr. Haines was born in Toronto and grew up in the Kincardine area before going to Port • Colborne in , 1925. He was a faithful member of the Port Colborne Baptist Church since 1926. where he was involved in the Baptist Young People's Union and served as a Sunday school teacher and superintendent • for many years. He also served on the Board of Deacons of the Baptist Church were he received the honor of becoming one of ithe first Life Deacons of the Church. In his younger years, Mr. Haines attended Toronto Bible College and served as lay preacher and superin- tendent of the East Side Mission in Port Colborne. A veteran of WW II, Mr. Haines was a Corporal in the RCAF ser- ving as -a wireless operator and radar technician in England and North Africa. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branches # 56, Pori Colborne and ' #350, Port Dalhousie and . a life member of St. John Ambulance. A licensed . ' mechanic and electrician, Mr. Haines worked at INCO, the Government El, tor, the Canada Cement Co. an . Iter operated Ralph's Auto Elec, we at King & Main Street, Port Colborne, until retiring in '1970. . He was an avid member .. Hudson Car Motor Club and uwi,,. several Hudsons himself. He had also served as president of the Resident's • Council of Linhaven Nursing Home. • Loving father of Ralph Haines Jr. and his wife Maude of Wainfleet, Grace Finnegan and her husband Robert of Port' Colborne, and Ruthanne Scotter and her husband Roy of Alberta. . . He will be sadly missed by seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. - Loving friend of Tina Gretzinger of St. Catharines. He was predeceased by his wife Ruth Haines (Richardson), and two sisters Lillian and Doris. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #56 conducted a memorial serviced un Aug. 31. The funeral was held at the Armstrong Funeral Home, Port -Colborne on Sept. 1 with Rev. Steven Black of the 'Port Colborne Baptist Church officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. Donations to the Port Colborne Baptist Church would be greatly appreciated as expressions• of sym- pathy. . Logan Allan McLean • 1938 - 1994 Logan Allan McLean, of Country Road Lodge, R.R. 3, Lucknow, and formerly of Goderich, died on Sept. 10, 1994, in his 57th year. Mr. McLean • was, born in Goderich on Sept, 3, .1938, -to the late William and Emily (Elliott) McLean. ” . He is survived .by a sister Diane and her husband Jack Johnston .of Huntsville, and three 'nieces. ' Mr. McLean was predeceased by a brother, Robert, in 1993. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Peggy Kinsman on Sept. 13 at the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home, Lucknow. Interment Greenhill Cemetery, Lucknow, Hallam - O'Neill David Micheal Hallam and Ap gela - Irene O'Neill, both of Goderich, were I united in mar- riage on Aug. 20, 1994 at the North Street United Church, Goderich, with Rev. Kathi Ur- basik-Hindley officiating. David is the son of Jim Hallam and Jean Hallam, both of Lucknow. The bride'sparents are Joe and Marie O'Neill of the Nile. Maid of honor was a friend of the bride, Nicole Anderson of Wingham. Bonnie Hallam, of Lucknow, sister of the groom, Laurie O'Neill and Con- nie O'Neill, Goderich, sisters of the bride and Stephanie Black, a cousin of Angela's were brides- maids. Courtney Tattersol of Sudbury, a cousin of the bride was flowergirl. She was escorted by ringbearer Scotty McTavish, of Stratford, the bride's cousin. Kyle Lindsay of Lucknow, a friend . o'f the David's, was the groomsman. Jon, Hallam, Luck - now, the groom's brother, Mike Barger of, Lucknow, Bob Thom- son of Wingham, and Jeff Wall of Wingham, all' friends of the groom acted as ushers. The newlyweds were honored at a reception at the Saltford Valley Hall. They honeymooned in the Poconos and now reside at 47 Anglesea Street, Goderich. The ceremony took place on the lawn of the bride's parents in Luck - now. Charlene is •the daughter of Mac and Lorene Conley, and groom is the son of ' Bill and Susan Toison, of Wingham. Maid of honor was Karen Pickard of Baden. Onita Bailey of Kitchener, and Colleen Conley, of Lucknow were bridesmaids. Groomsman 'was Doug Wood of Barrie, with Steve Errington of Wingham'and Dean Toltonof London acting as ushers. A reception followed at the Lucknow and District Com- munity Centre. The couple honeymooned in Niagara Falls and now live at 575 Stauffer Street, Lucknow.
