(Pat Livingston photo) Teachers,. board at stalemate 'from page 1 unless one party or the other agreed to mo'e from its last position. Ciavaglia said teachers have not moved and accused the board of wanting the meeting simply . to answer taxpayers' demands for action on the stalemate. .Thursday, Ciavaglia said Lawless had the same concerns. "His concern is, is this just another dance around the bush?" Ciavaglia said in a telephone inter- view. ' r Inglis said he's "not so sure" there's nothing for the two sides to discuss. "There are some things going on around us," Inglis said, referring to the tentative settlement between the Grey County board and its secon- dary school teachers and a recent agreement in York region. The Bruce board and its 280 • secondary school teachers have been without a contract since Sept. 1, 1992. Social contract implications, - especially on .increments for young teachers not\ yet at maximum salary levels arc at the heart of the dispute. Teachers have been on a work - to -rule campaign since) early May and will continuethat job action according to Ciavaglia. He predicts the work -to -rule could Continue for is long as a year. "That's unfortunate if that's the way he's thinking," Inglis said. Inglis indicated he would like to think the dispute would be.resolvcd in a few weeks but he refused to make a prediction. Ciavaglia said when the two sides go back to the table, teachers will consider aiming for a contract that takes them to the end of the social contract in 1996, instead of a one-year deal that would leave them in the position of having to negotiate a 1993-94 agreement. 1 think we're going to look at that," Ciavaglia said. "Why go back to another year of tension'?" • On that point, at least, the two sides may agree. "We're not. interested in a one-year deal now,"' Inglis said. "It's two years or more." 1994 eeka -esker az-ft 10 bbd 1994 AC r.
