Leprosy can be cured with modern drugs, but it currently af- fects thousands of people world- wide. -- and even in Canada. Bob Macfarlane of The Leprosy Mission Canada will present a program about the challenging work . of bringing cart and compassion to leprosy sufferers at the get -ac- quainted meeting of COFFEE BREAK on Wednesday, September 14, at 9:45 a.m. at the Lucknow United Church. Using a film highlighting the work of TLM in Nepal, Macfarlane will confront myths and misconcep- tions about leprosy and share the life -changing results of compas- sionate treatment. Macfarlane is a native of Ontario who has worked as a missionary in Mexico and is now the represen- tative for TLM in Central and Eastern Canada. Ontario 4-H mem- bers are invited to prepare: 1.. •a report on a 4-H program, event or success story or 2. a review of a current agriculture or rural com- munity concern; or 3. an interview with a community leader. Entries will be .divided into a junior and senior category, based on age of the 4-H member. ',ntries are judged oncontent, writing style, and presentation. There is a $100 cash award for the winner of each division. Attention writers . The Writers' Union of Canada is holding its second annual .Short Prose Competition for Developing Writers. Prizes $2,500 to the winner and $1,000 to the runner-up. The winning author will have his work published. in 'Books in Canada'. This contest is open t� all writers who 'have not been published in book format. Submissions must be 2,000-2,500 words and not previously published in any format. Phone 416-868-6914 for full details. 4-H is hiring The Ontario 4-H Council is seeking a self -motivated, respon- sible person with fundraising ex- perience and marketing/promotion skills. The successful applicant must have: excellent communication and interpersonal skills, computer literacy, ability to work with a large volunteer base. 4-H experience and fluency in French would be assets.
