Impaired
driver flees
on foot
OPP say a Kincardine area
woman is lucky there were no
injuries after an impaired driver
nearly collided with her head-on.
Sandra Veltkamp was travelling
south on Highway 21 near Pine
River on Aug. 19 at about 6:20
p.m.
On oncoming vehicle entered her.
land and Veltkamp took evasive
action.
She swerved into the north lane•
but the oncoming vehicle returned.
to that lane.
The vehicles .collided in a glan-
cing blow. Veltkamp's car entered
the east ditch while the other driver
entered the west ditch.
The driver, a 51 -year-old Clinton
man, fled the scene on foot, into a
com field.
OPP, passing motorists and area
residents conducted a sweep of the
field.
In less than an hour, the man was
located, hiding in the field.
He was arrested and charged with
impaired driving.
He was also charged with failing
to remain at the scene of an ac-
cident, refusing to provide a breath
sample, driving under suspension
and with having open liquor in the
vehicle.

Mildred's busy with visitors
Pascal Gautier of the University
of Montreal has been working with
the Ministry of Natural. Resources
in. Wingham for the past three
months, and has been staying with
Mildred McClenaghan. His parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Gautier of
Egain, Ontario, visited there last
weekend.
Don Parsons of Toronto visited
last weekend with Mildred
McClenaghun and on Thursday, Ted
and Vera McClenaghan of

Agnes Farrier attended the Farrier
picnic at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Scott Walker (Lorraine Gillespie) in
Sarnia last Sunday. She returned'
home on Tuesday with Carmen and
Brian Parrier.

Mosquitos
wrap up
ball season
Last weekend the Lucknow
Mosquito team wrapped up their
ball season.
Lucknow hosted the year end
tournament with 12 teams par-
ticipating.
The local squad started the action
Friday evening against Exeter. It
wa't a very close game with Luck -
now being defeated 11 to 9. Luck -
now scored one in the first inning,
four m the second and fifth innings.
With two outs and the bases loaded
in the top of the sixth, Lucknow
couldn't score the equalizer to take
,the game to the bottom of the sixth.
With the Toss on. Friday, the team
,was relegated to the "B" side of the
tournament. Playing in Dungannon
Saturday morning against Goderich
#1, a team Lucknow had split their
regular season play with, they
dropped the game by a 1.5 to 4
score, thus eliminating them from
further play.
The Goderich offence scored
seven in the first, two in the second
and third innings, and four in the
fourth to coast to their win.
Lucknow's offence could only
score two in the fourth and fifth
innings for their four runs.
As a first year team, Lucknow
finished above .500 with a 10-9
record; a 10-6 record . in season '
play, one exhibition loss to Ripley
"A", and two losses. in the year end
tournament.
With the season just concluded,
"the team is looking ahead to next
season. Four boys will be moving
to Pee ,Wee and the remaining 10
boys are hoping to return next
season.
Coach' Dave Black extends his
thanks to the parents for their sup-
port and to the coaching staff of
Wayne Farrish, John Johnston, and
Cliff • Mann for the uniforms; the
umpires, Gary Nicholson and of
course the players for their time and
effort at games and practices. .
