Museum is offering
basketry workshop
A unique artform is being
introduced at the Bruce County
Museum Aug. 26 and 27 with
instructor Janet Brooks of Sarasota,
Florida and Oliphant, Ontario.
Brooks is a basket maker and artist
of the finest calibre.
Two separate workshops are
being offered, one for beginners
and one which will be a little more
advanced. The beginner will learn
to make a market basket of reed, or
rattan and learn the technique of
twill weaving. Other decorative
materials will be available and the
participant will be able to make the
basket as simple or complicated as
they wish.
Beginners are also welcome to try
their creative hands at the' inter-
mediate workshop where the par-
ticipants will be weaving with
natural materials such as grasses.

their minds
The Blyth Festival Young com-
pany regretfully informs you that
the performance times for their
show, "Our Parents Made Us Do
It", have been changed.
The new show times are: Tuesday
to Thursday (Aug.16-18) at 9:30
• p.m. and Friday and Saturday
(Aug.19&20) at 7 and 11 p.m.
They apologize for the incon-
venience, saying "our parents won't
let us do anything!"
Performances are at the Blyth
Festival Garage, Dinsley Street,
Blyth, with a "pay what you can"
admission.
Texas scramble
set for Sept.
The Grey .Bruce 'Tourist As-
sociation is holding the 2nd Annual
Coif. 'T'ournament on Sept. 15 at
Homestead Golf and Winter Resort
(RR#4 Durham). It includes an
afternoon of great golfing followed
by an evening of cocktails, dinner
and a fund raising auction.
Registration is at 12 noon with a
shot gun start at 1. Cocktails will be
served at 5:00 followed by dinner,
with a fund-raising auction to finish
off a great day.
The format for ' the tournament
will be a Texas scramble in teams.

completed a project of cross stitch
on her own western red cedar bas-
kets. A large exhibit of her baskets,
as well as her inno.ative basket
weaving techniques in sculpturing,
was featured at the ' Sarasota
Museum. A small sample of her
work will be displayed at the
Museum for those who are
interested in the workshops.
Cost per workshop is $40 and $35
for Museum members. An ad-
ditional $5 - 10 may be required for
materials. Pre -register by calling the

makes plans
for 50th
The Royal Canadian Legion will
be celebrating the 50th Anniversary
of the end of World War 1I by
holding many events over the next,
year, across Canada.
Branch 309's (Lucknow) 50th
committee met recently to firm up
some of their plans for the next few
months. Upcoming events will be a
pancake breakfast on Fair Day,
veterans dinner, open house and
Ladies Auxiliary appreciation ban-
quet during Legion Week Sept. 18
to 25.
A 50th Anniversary Bali is also
being planned for Oct. 15. This will
feature a big band.

motocross
this weekend
Competitors from British
Columbia to the Maritimes,
Florida to Alaska will vie for
championship titles at the 3rd
Annual Trans Can National
Motocross in Walton later this
week.
Pee wees to pros will test their
' abilities -and skills at one of the
world's most physically deman-
ding sports - motocross.
This year's Trans Can will also
stage the final round of the five
I race Pro National Championship
I series where the best in Canada
will be crowned and S12,000 is
posted as the purse.
Qualifiers will run Thursday to
Saturday, with the finals on
