HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1994-08-10, Page 15Louisa Jane Reid 1899 - 1944 Louisa Jane Reid was born in Ashfield Township in 1899 to Jessie (Phillips) and William Menary. She died July 29, 1994 at Pinecrest Manor, Lucknow, in her 95th year. She married Manson Reid in 1924 and they farmed east of Lucknow until Mr. Reid retired. He passed away in 1973. Mrs. Reid continued to live on the farm with her son, Lome and daughter, Jessie Steven- son and family, until deteriorating health necessitated her moving to Pinecrest Manor. Her life centered around her home and family. She was a wonderful cook and her family will always remember the joy of coming home to the delicious aroma of fresh baked bread, cookies, pies or her special biscuits. It was a joy to be around a woman with a great sense of humor whose constant concern was for all of her family. Mrs. Reid was predeceased by her husband Manson, son Lome, daughter Jean St. Louis of Stoney Creek, granddaughter Heather Stevenson, and brothers Hugh, Vance and Livingston Menary. She is survived by daughters Jessie' Stevenson of Lucknow, Edna Greba of Sundre, Alberta, brothers Phillips and Clifford, sisters-in-law Dolly and Pearl and Caroline Menary, son-in-law Clayton St. Louis; six grandchildren Doug and OBITUARIES Connie Stevenson, Linda Naganobu (Al), Brain St. Louis (Mary), Steve St. Louis and Anne Greba; as well as five- great grandchildren Chris and Kelly Stevenson, Eric and Brianne St. Louis and Mariah Christy. The MacKenzie . and McCreath Funeral Home, Lucknow, was in charge of the funeral arrangements, Rev. Peggy Kinsman conducted the funeral service reading the 23rd Psalm, one of Mrs. Reid's favorites. Organ music was provided by Donalda Moffat, playing several of Mrs. Reid's favorite hymns. Pallbearers were five grandchildren and one great grandson: Doug, Connie and Chris Stevenson, Linda Naganobu, Brian and Steve St. Louis. Flower bearers were three great grandchildren Kelly Stevenson, Eric and Brianne St. Louis. Interment Greenhill Cemetery, Lucknow. The United Church women served lunch following the service, with Rev. Bill Bresnahan saying grace. "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. Surely, goodness and mercy shall follow me, all the days of my life, and I. shall dwell in the House of the Lord, forever." Gordon Orval Chapelle 1914. - 1994 Gordon Orval Chapelle, of Inglis Street, Lucknow, died at the Strat- ford General Hospital, on July 23, 1994, in his -80th year. He was, born in Midland on Oct. 8, 1914, a son of the late Nelson and Maude (Aitchison) Chapelle. Mr, Chapelle is survived by his wife Dorothy (Scales) of Lucknow; tivo sons Gordon of Cambridge and Ronald of Toronto; two brothers Everett and Cecil, both of Toronto; and three sisters Mary, Helen and Gerrie, as well as six grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Joan. The funeral was conducted at the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home, Lucknow, with Father Harry Reitzel officiating. , Cremation. Reginald Lavis Reginald (Reg) Lavis of London, died at Victoria Hospital, on Aug. 7, 1994, in his 87th year. Husband of the late Ruby (Turner) Lavis (1990). Loving father of Nancy and her husband Eric Fors of Richmond Hill, Donald and his wife Joanne Fjetland of Surrey, B.C., and Carol and her husband Steven Officer of London; dear brother of Harry of Lucknow; loving grandfather of Kim, Mike, Shelley, Chris and Tim. • Visitation was at the Needham Funeral Chapel, London on Tues- day, with the funeral service on Aug. -10 at• 1 p.m. IntermentGreenhill Cemetery, Lucknow, Aug. 10 at 4 p.m. Memorial donations to The Lung Association would be appreciated. He was the beloved- husband of Ettabelle (Webster) Bradley; dear father of Brenda and Robert Miller of Cambridge, Faye and Bruce Rodrigues of London, Alice and Alex MacDonald of Fort Nelson, B.C.; loving poppa of Bradley, Blaine, Jamie, Craig, Alexandria, Anne Margaret and Alison; brother of Margaret Bridle of Clinton, Mabel and Charles Haddad of London, Olive and Lee Moorcroft of Toronto, Dorothy and Tom Woolvett of London, and son-in-law of Hazel Webster of Goderich. Mr. Bradley was predeceased by brothers Lloyd, Henry and Bob. MacDonalds gather in the. cedars Around 140 descendants of Donald, Murdock and John Mac- Donald signed the register at the 65th annual MacDonald reunion on Aug. 1. They gathered, as usual, in the cedars on the 'farm ,of Dave MacDonald near Lochalsh. After a lively program of races and games, conducted by Brian and Nancy Simpson, everyone was treated to an excellent lunch super- vised by Jean West, Mabel Mae - Donald, Cathy Cook and Edith Simpson. During this time Dave MacDonald and Finlay MacLennan favored with some fine selections on the bag pipes. President David Agnew, of Chicago, was in charge of the meeting and all deaths, marriages and births of the past year were recorded. A moment's silence was observed for Margie MacDonald, 'Margaret Allan and Bob McAllister who had passed away in 1993/94. Jessie Johnston and Finlay J. MacDonald- were each presented with pins in honor of 65 years perfect attendance. There were also 10 to 15 present who had attended the first reunion in 1930. There was a terrific turnout on a beautiful day that saw beer bugs at a minimum. Brian Simpson was in charge of the sporting events with the fol- lowing winners: running race, 4 and under: Kayla Evans, Catherine Simpson; Kevin Cook, Alex LeGrandc, Gavin Agnew. 5 years: Tori MacDonald, Allison Meldrum, Kellsey Agnew; 5 & 6 years: Stuart Simpson, Elliott Simpson; 6 & 7 years: Lisa Johnson, Rachael Simpson; 7,8 & 9: Graham Parker, Wes Cook; 8 & 9: Alex Mac- Donald, Carlie Evans, Abbey Simpson; 10,11 & 12: Peter Meldrutn, Tom Simpson; 10,11,12 & 13: Jean Cook, Jesse Cook, Sharon Macdonald; 13 & 14: Jeff Davey, Nathan Ferguson, Bob Simpson; 15 and over: Jay Muhvic, Glen Ferguson, Doug Agnew; Jack- ie Simpson, Lori Evans, Bethany Birkhaug. Next year's committee, for the Aug. 5 reunion includes: Eric Birkhaug, president; Alex Simpson, vice; Jennifer Birkhaug, secretary; David MacDonald, treasurer; games, Brian and Bob Simpson, Meal helpers are Catherine Cook; .Margaret Ferguson and Mary Louise Dalton. Finley MacDonald and Jessie Johnston. were honored for atten- ding the most reunions. The furthest traveller was Alice MacDonald from B.C. Kevin James was the newesr clan member and Heather and Brian Barlett won the newlywed prize. The group adjourned to the Point Clark Community Centre for dan- cing to Norman Dunsmoor and his band.
