HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1994-07-27, Page 3Third lip sync, air band competition this Friday The count down is on for the fourth annual lip sync and air band competition, sponsored by the Lucknow and District Chamber of Commerce. This event has proven to be a popular one, in conjunction with the annual sidewalk sale days, and Moonlight Madness evening. This year's competition will have a change in venue. A trailer will be set up in Caledonian Park, near the Lions gazebo, where the crowds should be even bigger, since the Craft Festival is located in the arena complex. The competition is open to teenagers between the ages of 13 and 19. The prize purse totals $175 - $100 for fust, $50 for second and $25 for third. Participants are asked to follow a :50s - '60s theme, so pick out a favorite tune from that era, get in your parents' closets and dig out those `groovy' clothes, and get practicing! A followup to the teen entries will be performances by area business people, who are once gain after the `coveted' trophy. To register, call Vicky at 528- 2210. Intoxicated driver kicks in door to use telephone A 36 -year-old Hamilton man, on his way from Hanover to Hamilton, ended up with his car upside down in Lake Huron near Amberley on July 21. Police were called about an im- paired driver at 4:17 a.m. after Rick Elliott found the man in his office at Elliott's Construction, near where the car had gone into the hike. His mother, who ' lives alone upstairs, called Elliott to the business after someone was ringing the doorbell. The door had been kicked in and Elliott found the man using his telephone. Elliott drove the man to McNay's Store at Highway 21 where there is a, phone booth. The man was wet and bloody and Elliott decided 'to take a look around the area he found the man: That's when Elliott discovered the car in Lake Huron and he reported the incident to police. The driver was charged with drinking and driving, He was also charged with breach of probation. A 29 -year-old Kincardine man was charged with obtaining transportation by fraud after taking a taxi from Clinton to Kincardine on July 20. When he arrived, he told the taxi driver he couldn't pay for the $59.80 ride. He gave the driver a name which turned out to be false and promised to mail the money to the taxi company. The incident was reported to police who, with a description of the man, located him at a townhouse in the Walsh Street area, Kincardine. A 15 -year-old Howick Township youth was charged with "minor having liquor" on July 23 at 1:28 a.m. The vehicle he was in was stopped on Highway 86 in Kinloss Township for a Highway Traffic Act violation when open beer was found inside. Lots to see at • Craft Festival The directors of the Lucknow Agricultural Society have finalized plans for their 24th annual Craft Festival, to be held this weekend in the Lucknow arena. Many various crafts will be on display for sale, while some crafters will be doing demonstrations. The Kairshea Women's Institute will be serving meals on Friday. The ladies of the Agricultural Society will be looking after the booth on Saturday. A 50/50 draw will be held with proceeds to Phase II of the arena. "People come from all over On- tario, Michigan and New York states to participate in the Jamboree sponsored by the Point Clark Old Tyme Music Association and the • Village of Lucknow," says Hanson. The jamboree is a fun filled, toe - tapping afternoon that has grown in leaps and bounds since its inception six years ago. "Lucknow is a great place to have the Jamboree," says Hanson. "We are delighted with the warm reception we receive from organizations and business people." This year there is well over $700 in door prizes donated by area businesses, and of course there's the sought after prizes for the oldest lady and gent, and youngest boy and girl performers. The hospitality and generosity is very humbling for.... me," says Hanson. On Saturday night, the organizers are planning an old-fashioned hootenanny and plans are in the works for the performers to tour the village giving a wee bit of a demonstration of what to expect on Sunday. This year Hanson says they issued special invitations to seniors in local homes for the aged. A group from Brucelea Haven, Walkerton, is expected to take in the event as well. The Jamboree gets underway at 12:30 on Sunday. Admission is $3 for adults, and 12 and under free with an adult. Food is available on site. Musicians receive free entry and supper. Midford Wall and Irlma Hackett married were on Apr. 8, 1944, at the home of her, parents Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hackett,. Sr., on the 12th Conc. of Ashfield Township.
