Cardiff and Martin descendants gather for reunions
The Cardiff family held their
1994 family reunion at the Seaforth
Park on Sunday, June'26. •
Brookside Public School held its
Grade 8 graduation exercises on
Monday, June 27.
Congratulations to the. many
'award winners and the Class of '94.
Congratulations to Mary Anne
Franken and Robert Millian . who
were married at St. Augustine
Roman. Catholic Church, on Satur-
day, July 2, with reception at Blyth.
- Several from this area attended'
the bridal shower for Dr. Anne
Boyle, daughter of Cyril and Mary
Boyle, at the St. Augustine parish
hall on July 1. Her marriage to Dr.
Steve Lloyd will be this coming
Friday, July 8.
Alvin Sherwood attended . a
reunion. at Hamilton of overseas
buddies of #409 Squadron Royal
Canadian Airforce on June 26.
They have met together • every year
for 45 years. Next year the reunion,
will be held at North Bay. .
Jeffery Austin and Peter Harcus,
of Six Mile Lake, Port Severn,
travelled by 16 foot aluminum boat
from Port Severn to Tobermory,
following the ferry from Tobermory
to the Manitoulin Islands where
they .ported overnight. Following
the shores of Lake Huron • they
arrived in Goderich 'on Thursday
, evening. - They visited Jeffery's
parents Eldon and Mary Austin and
Marlene Godfrey in Dungannon.
Congratulations to former Dun-
• gannonite, Bill Black who retired at •
the end of June after teaching for
35 .years; to• Arlyne McMillen who
taught . kindergarten at Brookside
Public School, retiring after
completing her 37th year of suc-
cessful teaching and to Lois Teb-
butt, Brookside who is ,taking a
leave of absence for one year. Mr.
Grail will be coming to Brookside
in September from Seaforth Public
School.
Mark and Mary Luanne Doherty
and family of Selkirk, Manitoba
arrived home on Friday, to spend
17 days holidays with their parents
Clarence and Loretta Doherty and
Walter and Mary Clare.
They and about 70 other descen-
dants of the Blaise Martin family
attended the Martin Reunion . on
Saturday, enjoying the many games
and especially the food. .
$t. Joseph's Church at
Kingsbridge was packed on Sunday
for ' the Cemetery Day Mass, fol-
lowed by procession to the
cemetery for blessing and prayers.
Wreaths were placed by loved ones
in memory of the departed..
Greg and Judy Andress and
children, Christopher and Stephanie
spent the holiday weekend, camping
at 6 Mile Lake, near Midland.
A tree planting ceremony .took
place on Dominion Day at the
home of Allan .and Beth Dickson;
with the assistance of daughter
Wendy. Two.beautiful silver maple
trees will grace their front lawn.
Donna and Fred Young hosted a
family "Fare Thee Well" luncheon
at Dungannon Senior Citizen Centre
on . Saturday, prior to daughter
Sharon and husband Pastor Donald ,
Schieman and daughters Juliana and.
Allison, taking up residence in
Middle Lake; Saskatchewan.. •
50 Thacker relatives
gather for annual picnic
On Sunday June 26 the descen-
dants of the late Latchford and Cora
Thacker held their annual picnic at
Poplar Beach with Kay. Thacker
hostess. There were 50 present and
all enjoyed the family get together
at their cottage there..
Visiting with Mrs.. Kay Thacker
during the week were Eldon Thack-
er, of Kincardine, and Dr. Ken and
Cheryl Thacker and their children'
Janelle and Jason, of Thunder Bay.
On Saturday July 2, '140 descen-
dants of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Edward Stanley held their annual
family reunion, and those who
could remain over had another get-
together at the home of . Mr. and
Mrs. Earl Elliott Con. 10 on Sun-
day.
We extend sympathy to the
family of a former neighbor, the
late Margaret Haldenby, who passed
away on June 27 in her 97th year.
She has been a resident at Pinecrest
Manor for a number of years. The
remains rested at the ' MacKenzie
and McCreath Funeral Home, Luck -
now, where the funeral was held on
Wednesday afternoon..

Margaret Christensen visited on
Wednesday with Mr. and Mrs.
Terry Burt.. She has recently under-
gone knee surgery and we all wish
her a good recovery.
Pastor Christensen assisted with
the funeral of the late Margaret
Haldenby who was a member of his
congregation at the . Pentecostal
Church here.

Joe Tiffin and his family band,
entertained campers and locals, at -
Point Farms on the holiday Satur-
day; an event that they have been
performing at for over 20 years.
Horace Crawford was master of
Ceremonies.
The Tiffin Orchestra will be a
feature at the Dungannon Agricul-
ture Dance on.Aug. 6.
Attending the funeral. of Allan
Pentland in North Bay on June 29,
were brothers Frank and Wilfred.
Other relatives attending from this
area were Belle Mole, Marjorie
Pentland, Nellie (Pentland) Clayton,
Pat and George Gibson, Ken and
Liz Brooks, London, Carol and Bob
Andrew, Kincardine, Fran
Armstrong, Goderich, and Barb' and
Doug Allemang, Millgrove.
• The inaugural address of Rev.
Alex McGilvery was well received
at the Sunday morning worship
service of Dungannon Union Pas-
toral Charge.
Following devotions, a pot luck
luncheon was served in_ the Dun-
gannon Sunday School room, a
time of fellowship and introduc-
tions. A warm welcome awaits you
at any one of the four points Dun-
gannon, Donnybrook, Trinity and
.Nile.

Marilyn and Harold Fishback,
Ingersoll, attended the Dungannon
Cemetery Memorial Service. on.
June 26.
They toured the former home of
her late grandparents William and
Mabel Thompson, who operated a
black smith business from the year
of 1884 on these premises. This
home remained in the Thompson
family, .until it was purchased by
Thomas and Hazel Webster in
1962, and Jim and Margaret Er-
rington in 1985.
Marilyn was the only child of
Franklin and Jean (Clarke)
Thompson. Franklin's death oc-
curred in 1963, at the age of 64.
Jean, passed away May 22, 1994 at
the age of 84.
Vicka Linka, Goderich and sister.
Margaret. of Kitchener visited Jim
and, Corina Ionescu and , family at
Jim's Variety on Friday.
Irene Markham is convalescing at
her home 'following recent surgery
at London's University Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. . Ken Royal, Portage
La Prairie, Manitoba, attended the
Bell and Phillips family reunion at
the home of' her sister, Jean and
Russell Phillips on Saturday. •
Claire Cook and son Trevor
holidayed with her cousin Iva Blair
at Ingleside, Ontario. On the return
trip they brought her aunt Dorothy
Gogo, to visit her mother, Willetta
McWhinney, a very pleasant, unex-
pected surprise. The sisters, Willetta
and Dorothy spent the past week at
Owen . Sound with Jim and Janice
McWhinney. •
Jackie Godfrey, daughter of Janet
is a contestant in the Miss Pre -Teen
Contest. A part of the requirements
are modeling in a Toronto Fashion
Show. '
The "Many Hands Strawberry
Patch" a mission project of Dun-
gannon . United Church, has been a
busy spot this past week.
Credit for much of the spade
work goes to Jan Logtenberg, who
with the co-ordinatior Dawn Tuck-
er, have kept things humming.
Margaret Errington had the pleasure
of. being interviewed by Murray
Gaunt on Tuesday, on Voices of
Mid Western Ontario, telling of this
Voluntary Missionary Project
