Students could be part of smoking survey Local students could be part of a national survey on attitudes and use of tobacco among young people. Separate board trustee Helen Waechter said Statistics Canada will , do the survey in the fall, targeting 10-14 year olds at school and 15-19 year olds by telephone. The board approved the survey, but doesn't yet know which if any classes will be chosen to take part . in the project. ' Information from Stats Canada 'says because the tax cut on tobacco may prompt more young people to smoke, other measures are being taken to discourage young people from starting the habit. They include raising the legal age for buying cigarettes, bigger warning signs and public education about the dangers of smoking. The survey will help determine if those measures are working. Trivia.
