of being stigmatized.
To the editor:
As a law abiding gun owner
and hunter, I am tired of being
stigmatized as a problem in
Canada.
The people in power feel more
gun controls are the answer.
Wrong. This is only a bandaid to
placate worried citizens of the
urban centres. Canada already
has some of the strictest laws in
the world, but criminals do not
purchase legal firearms or apply
for FACs; they purchase or steal
illegal weapons. Crimes are the
committed with impunity
because they know the courts
will only give the a slap on the
wrist if they do get apprehended.
The average time .spent in jail
for a violent crime in Canada is
less than 90 days. I am sure
criminals must laugh every time
our government . yells "MORE
GUN CONTROLS."
No one gets more upset than I
do when a police officer is
gunned down or some idiot kills
innocent people in a restaurant.
The solution to this is not more
controls, it is what the majority
of Canadians want, the return of
corporal and capital punishment.
In addition the courts must stop
listening to the bleeding hearts
and start enforcing the laws we
have now. Stop plea bargaining
and letting violent repeat of-
fenders back on the street.
TO THE EDITOR
However, our elected officials
have forgotten who put them in
power and seem more interested
in catering to a few special
interest groups who have the
time and the money to make
their demands known. These
groups play on the conscience of
Canadians who are terrified of
possibly being labeled racist or
bigoted, so our government
caters to these groups knowing
that the average citizen is too
busy trying •to pay taxes and
make a living to complain.
• As a legitimate gun owner and
taxpayer of Canada, I can no
longer remain silent or accept
the fact that • I :am being
discriminated against. WAKE
UP CANADA we must stand
together and say "WHAT
ABOUT MY RIGHTS AND
HERITAGE." Get strict with
criminals and tell these radical
special interest groups we are
sick of hearing from them.
If the traditions and real, values
of this great country do not suit
you, 1 would, strongly suggest
that perhaps your old country
would be a better place for you
to live.

Alice Ritchie opened the meeting
with an appropriate poem "A

to respond to Cormack's questions
about her people and their way of
life. At her death; she left an in-
valuable record of an extinguished
race.
Shanawdithit's tragic story is a
sorrowful reminder of the
catastrophic impact the arrival of
the Europeans had on Canada's
native peoples.

Looking for information
on Stevenson family
To the editor:
Have so far been unsuccessful in
obtaining information on some
relatives who lived and died in your
area. I am seeking any information
on James Stevenson who died in
Lucknow on Sept. 23, 1901;
Euphema Stevenson who died June
12, 1901; and Thomas Stevenson,
husband to Euphema, who died
after his wife but whose date of
death is unknown.
I am interested in any information
on these people but I am particular-
ly interested in knowing if they had
any descendants, perhaps still living
in the area.
If any of your readers can be of
help to me, I could be very happy
to hear from them as soon as pos-
sible, since I may be in your area
some time in July; and I would then
get in touch with them.

Terry Fox organizer
needed in Lucknow
As The Terry Fox Run ap-
proaches its fourteenth year we look
to the people of Ontario to continue
the dream Terry started in the sum-
mer of 1980.
The Terry Fox Foundation Office
is seeking an individual, family or
group in Lucknow to organize a
Terry Fox Run on Sunday, Sept.
18.
Terry believed that one person
could make a difference -- together
we can be a powerful force towards
an end to the scourge we know as
cancer.
Terry's Fox legacy, which now
totals over $136 milliort for in-
novative cancer research, has
contributed to the very impressive
advances made in cancer research.
Noted Canadian researchers have
said that there has been more
progress in research over the past
decade than in the previous millen-
nium. With the monies raised by
The Terry Fox Run accounting for
25 per cent of all funds distributed
by The National Cancer Institute
continued support for the Run is
more important than ever.
If you believe, like Terry, that
you can make a difference in the
battle to defeat cancer please call 1-
800-387-1200 for information about
how to get involved in the 1994
Terry Fox Run.
