LCPS says thanks to helpers
On June 17, LCPS held an ap
prcciation assembly for many of the
school and community helpers who
assist the school in so many ways.
The assembly began with the
Kindergarten "Hello" song and then
plays and a rap introducing students
who will be helping primary
students to solve playground
• problems next year. These Lucknow
Central Problem Solvers will be
contributing greatly by mediating
on the yard.
Student helpers were then recog-
nized. The school publicly thanked
these student leaders: the Kinder-
garten assistants, the Nature Club,
the Student Council class represen-
tatives, and the Daily Desk Wipers.
The school runs more smoothly
because of these dedicated children.
Working together makes us
• stronger! •
Well deserved attention was then
directed to the faithful parent and
community volunteers who have
regularly given of their time and
talent to support our students and
teachers in so many, •many ways.
Deepest thanks go to Barb de Boer,

Farewell
I would like to take this oppor-
tunity to express my appreciation to
the students, parents, staff and
community of Lucknow Central
Public School for the tremendous
support and cooperation which 1
have enjoyed over the past four
years. I have had a very happy time
learning and working with you at
LCPS. Thank you for all of the
unforgettable memories and ex-
periences. Lucknow Central Public
School is a special place which will
always hold a treasured sport in my
heart: Kathy Broad.
Phantom of the Opera
On June 8, a large group of Grade
7 and 8 students, along with a
number of parents and their guests,
travelled to Toronto to see a perfor-
mance of the "Phantom of the
Opera." A very enjoyable day was
had by all as we viewed not only
the performance itself, but also a
special morning presentation which
explained many of the different
aspects of the show, such as the .
acting, lighting, music and special
effects. 'A special thank you must
be given to all those chaperones
who freely gave their support and
help throughout the day!
Alzheimers Walk
On June 15 the Grade 7 class
went on an Alzheimers Walk-a-
thon.
The students paired up with
several residents of Pinecrest Nur-
sing
Home, and stopped at the
Super Scoop for an ice-cream cone.
Prior to the walk-a-thon the Grade
7 students raised $350.00. The
proceeds will go to the Alzheimer's
Foundation.
Track and Field Restilts
We had 13 students. tialfor
' qualify Y
the County Track and Field Day on
' June 11. The; team consisted of
Nigel Black, Sandy Lougheed,
Marcella Kranenburg, Shea Dickie,
Tim Eadie, Andrea Hiller,Crystal
Fyn,. Laura 'Sande, Mike Irwin,
Megan Trachsel, Angie Nicholson
and Darlene Aitchison. Megan
Trachsel broke her own record in
the 60m wheelchair event to place
first. Tim Eadie had a first place
finish in the 200m. Nigel Black had
ge c
a second in the 800m and a third in
the 400m. Sandy Lougheed had a
sixth in the long jump. Many other
students had personal bests.
World Watchers
The World Watchers continued to
show their support for the environ-
ment during the 1993-94 school
year. The
members of
the club
monitored the school's composting
program. • They took part in two
different planting sessions spon-
sored by the Greenway Project and
are caring for the many trees
planted by the stream's edge.
The club hosted another swapshop
and sold environmentally friendly
Christmas cards. '
They have initiated a. Learner's in
Action Program which encourages
the whole school to be involved in
environmental awareness.
On behalf of the school I would
like to thank the 13 members for
dedicating their time for such a
worthy cause.
We look forward to continuing -
with this club again next year.
(Mrs. Bell, Mrs. Lash, Mrs. Black.)
Kindergarten and
. Grade 1 Track and Field
On June 10 the kindergarten
classes and the Grade 1 classes
enjoyed a mini Olympics with
individual and team competitions.
We had great racers, kickers, and
balancers in our relays, "kick the
shoes" and "carry the potato" races.
But best of all, we were all good
sports, cheering for our friends and
enjoying the fun. A popsicle treat
helped cool us off at the end.
