Mr. ander Mrs. Jack Barr had a
family gathering on Sunday. Atten-
ding were Cora Barr of Pinecrest,
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Barr of
Aurora, Mr. and Mrs. Morley
Bushell and Mr. and Mrs. Barry
Bushell, Megan' and Jessica of
Wingham, Margaret Bushell of
Goderich, Myrtle Percy of here, Mr.
and Mrs. Gary Fair and Henry Van
de Klippe and their families of
Kincardine, and Mr. and Mrs. Mur-
ray Barr of here.
We are sorry to hear that Mar-
garet Haldenby, formerly of our
village and now residing at
Pinecrest Manor,is a patient in
Wingham and District Hospital. We
wish her improved health.
We .extend sympathy to Mary
. McFarlane in the death of her
sister, Mrs. Wilmer Harcourt (Pearl
Jones) of Wingham.
Bessie Maulden and her sister,
Jean Phillips, visited with Nina
McDonald of Ripley.

and Jean Phillips, enjoyed a noon
day luncheon at the Mayfair in
Lucknow on Thursday.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Donnan visited
with Pastor and Mrs. Robert Don-
nan and Melinda. Their mother
Helen Donnan returned home to
Belleville with them after having a
holiday here.
Mr. and Mrs. Doug Jansen, Tif-
fany and Amanda, of Cochrane
visited during the weekend with
their grandmother Myrtle Percy.
On Wednesday evening, this
community honored Cheryl Smith
with a bridal shower held at the
Holyrood Hall. She received lovely
gifts after which lunch was served
and a social time enjoyed.
Presbyterian WMS
The Presbyterian Women's Mis-
sionary Society . met Thursday
evening at the home of president'
Isabel Thompson, who opened with
a poem `Peace be still'.
Rollcall was art inspirational
verse.
Erlma Haldenby led ' in the
devotions and used variousscripture
passages to answer the question
"Are you a Christian crank?" We
must allow unusual thoughts or
impulses to seep into our minds and
not see only the negative side- of a
situation but look for the good.
Does our cup leak and not need to
be filled? God is always ready to
fill our cups to the brim.
Betty Bushell had the study
opening with an inspirational verse
and a new song to we everyday
people. Friendship and service was
also read and the poem "If Nobody.
Knew."
Joan Barr read an article from
Glad Tidings and Barbara Bushell
read Up Days and a poem. Betty
Bushell had two short readings. and
a Bible contest.
Following the courtesies nine
members enjoyed a time of fellow-
ship over lunch.
Financial woes hit Ripley library
Registration will be held in
August for Fall pre-school Story
Time sessions. Story Time •starts
Tuesday, September 6, so please
call the library for more information
• on the. limited number of spots
available, Please note that you are
asked to register before the begin-
ning of Story Time by calling or
visiting the library.
Due to financial restraints there
will be no summer film program or
children's reading club this sum-
mer.
The library club wishes to thank
the Historical Society for . the
donation of the "Ripley: Huron's
Hub" hist3ory book. If you haven't
had a chance to browse through this
book, yet, don't delay. Our sincere
congratulations go; out to the book
committee on a first class produc-
tion..
The Friends of the Library club
thanks Francis. Nugent for all her

Ripley Happy Hearts
Congratulations are extended to
Joan and Gord Fry, Peg Roome,
Kay Collins, and Jim MacDonald
on placing second in the district
during the five -pin bowling com-
petition held at the Hanover Senior
Games last week. They bowled
175 pins over average, being beaten
by the first place team who scored
202. It . was a very close com-
petition.

A new park bench has been
placed on the main street. of Ripley
by McAdam's Store. This bench is
in memory of Donalda McLean, a

receives recognition
• The 84 members of the Port Elgin
Saugeen Central School band and
their director, Cam Porter, won.
recognition from the Bruce County
board of Education June 7.
Superintendent Sharon Ribey
described Porter as "an outstanding
music educator." He's taken the
• band to a gold medallion perfor-
mance at Hanover's Music Fest, to
a first .in its class at the Kiwanis
Festival, and to ranking- as On-
