Strawberries in Dungannon soon
DUNGANNON
Jim Errington and Joe Courtney
teamed for euchre at the Goderich
Senior,Games, May •30, while Mar-
garet and Teresa paired off. Al-
though not in the winning circle,
they enjoyed an afternoon of fun.
The foursome attended the pot
luck banquet at MacKay Centre.
June 8 when the winners were
announced, to represent Goderich at
the District Senior Games at Strath-
roy, June 20 and 21.
Jim and Margaret will wear the
navy t -shirt when theyenter the
crokinole competition at that Ievel.
All participants will be attired in.
the uniformed t -shirt with the natty
white emblem of OSG (Ontario -
Senior Games). Mayor of Goderich
Eileen Palmer made the presen-
tation along, with Doran Love,
Manager- of the Sponsorers,
National Trust.
Former Dtingannonites Jean
Broughton and partner Lorna Sutton
tied for first position in the euchre -
cornpetition, with Maxine Maize
and partner Robert Jewell winning
the playoff. Harold Maize was
honorably mentioned for entering.

Joe Courtney was a winner of one
of the banquet door prizes.
Beth McConnell, residing at
Country Road Lodge, was honored
on her 80th birthday June 9 .by the
Dungannon/Nile UCW, the
Women's Institute of which Beth is
a life member and friends.
The program was conducted by
Jean Errington, and consisted of
musical-nunibers,.with Elmira Fin-
nigan accompanying on the lovely
tunes of the piano, which came,
from the home of Beth.
Beth composed a book of poems
called the Dreamer. Two were read
by Margaret Errington: "The Old
Country Store" and "Same Old
place."
Violin selections were played by
Tom Culbert, before the Lords
Prayer was. repeated. .
Beth expressed her appreciation
for the good wishes extended, the
lovely cards, a "Cupid" plant and'
the red carnations, a special token
from A.J. •
Birthday greetings were also sung
in honor of Ila Crozier's birthday
June.8 and to Elsie Irvin''s special
day on June 13.
Birthday cake and ice cream were
sent to Beth and fellow residences,
with visitation among friends
thoroughly enjoyed.
Harvey. Culbert expressed ap-
preciation when the Dungannon
Seniors attended the smorgasbord
B.B.Q. served at Huronview, Clin-
ton, on Tuesday, June 7.
Following a luncheon, The Huron
Strings Musical Ensemble, enter-
tained the local club, as well as
clubs from Grand Bend and Hol-
mcsville.
This event promoted June as
Senior Citizen Month, and was an
opportune time to visit friends and
relatives in the lovely new
residence.
On Wednesday, June 8 at the
Dungannon Senior Citizen Club, 12
tables of euchre players came from
St. Andrew's UCW

The. members of SL Andrew's
U.C.W. met in the church hall on
the evening of June 7 for a pot luck
dinner and time of fellowship prior
to their regular meeting. Marjorie
Brook and Grace Carruthers had
made the tables attractive.
Anna MacTavish and Eileen
MacDonald' were in charge of the,
program. Eileen opened the
meeting with a poem on Smiles and
passed out Happy Face cards with
sayings on laughter, etc., for the
members and guests to read.
Katherine Collins, President of the
near and far to enjoy the game.
Marion Haggitt and Ora Bruce
tied for low prize with a score of
44. Mabel Lamont was high lady
and her brother, Gordon Bosman,
high man. Cliff Menary was also a
winner.
Helen Dawson attended the K -W
Hospital Alumni Reunion at Bin-
geman Park, Kitchener on June 4.
The former Helen Straughan, a
registered nurse graduate of 1938
class, was the only one of that year
present.
Fran (Houston)' Clarke, from
Auburn, class of 43, ,also attended
the function.
There soon will be strawberries in
Dungannon. Steve and Sheila Faber
who were transferred to Mitchell,
have given the local church the
strawberry patch for the 1994
growing season, This "Mission"
Project is entitled "Many Hands."
A big thank you was extended for
the donation of baled straw, which
has been distributed. Finishing
touches and essential decisions were
made at the Patch on Monday night.

Rev. Alex McGilvery and his
wife Alexandra will be moving into
the Dungannon Manse on June 20.
If any church member has time to
spare late that .afternoon, to help
with the "moving in" the gesture
will kindly be accepted.
Rev. Alex's Pastoral duties begin
on the July 1.
Sharon Wurm Lay Minister con-
ducted Sunday morning worship at
the Dungannon/Donnybrook chur-
ches.

Coalition Group. The meeting is
scheduled for June 24 (Friday) 8
p.m. at the St. Augustine Church.
All interested parties in protest of
designated sites on Concession 7 of
the Township, are urged to attend.
Greta Stewart, former Dungannon
resident, celebrated her 102 birthday
on Monday, June 13 at the home of
her daughter Gwen Caesar also in
attendance was daughter Annetta
Rabjohns of Detroit, Michigan and
son Bill of Dungannon.
The Aitchison families were out
in full force, to attend the wedding
and Lucknow reception of Beverley
Ann, daughter of Bob and Beth
,Aitchison, to Michael . Lewis at
WinghamtUnited Church on Satur-
day, June 11.
This included Jean and husband
George Errington, and Betty and
Bill of the Dungannon area.
Several from this' area joined
more.than 2000 people at the Blyth
and District Community Centre to
listen to the Down East Cape
Breton songs composed and sung
by Rita MacNeil last Friday
evening. Shebrought the house
down with her final song Balls of
Fire.
Congratulations to- Bill and Barb
Hayden who celebrated. their 25th
wedding anniversary on Tuesday,
June 7.
Kingsbridge Seniors enjoyed a hot
turkey and roast beef dinner with
all the trimmings on June 9 in the
Kingsbridge Parish Hall. It was
followed by entertainment with Jim
Doherty as M.C.'• A special thank
you to Jean and Anne Lalonde and
their work crew who provided a
wonderful evening.

Hodges, who graduated from Sir
John Abbott C.E.G.E.P., Montreal,

She plans to major in Psychology
at Concordia University, Montreal
in September.
Congratulations to Tom and
Dilores Culbert on the arrival of
their granddaughter Courtney Lynn
on June 9.
Proud parents are Cheryl and
Herb Gray of Elmira. Courtney was
bom at the K.W. Hospital, weighed
in at 5 pounds 10 ounces and is a
sister fbr Kelsey.
A large crowd attended the stag
and doe for local residents Angela
Glenn and Elwyn Brindley on June
11 at the Goderich and District
Memorial Arena.
Marty Rivett's back kitchen and
garage on Albert Street were dis-
mantled by Sid Bruinsma Ex-
cavating Limited on June 10. Stone
from. the footing was used to fill in
a covered well.
An L-shaped side enhance with a
mud room will be constructed.
The concrete work will be done
by C & M Concrete (John
Matheson) of Dungannon and the
contractor is Gary Smith. The
,driveway will be made six feet
wider, making abetter parking area.

Father's Day on Sunday, June 12 at
the Sutton Park Inn, Kincardine.

family of Kitchener, Bill and Donna
McCormick and family of Auburn
were weekend visitors with Bob
and Doreen McCormick.
Congratulations to Dean Bere who
celebrated his second birthday. on
June 9. Family celebrations were -
held on the weekend.
Sherry Hodges, graduated from
Brock University, $t. Catharines on
June 10 with a honors degree in
Sociology.
Her mother, Penny, sister Tanya
and her friend Mike Hurd attended
the celebrations. Family and friends
gathered at Penny's home in Dun-
gannon on/ Sunday to honor Sherry.
Sherry is employed for the summer
with Huron Public Housing at
Goderich. Congratulations Sherry.
.Harvey and Becky Culbert and
Bob and Lynn Oliver attended the
Rita MacNeil concert in Blyth on
Friday and went on to Paris forthe
weekend celebrations at . the
fairgrounds.
They enjoyed the tractor pull, the /
horse pull; flea markets and
especially the songs by Earl
Heywood..
Sincere sympathy to Becky and
Harvey Culbert on the death of her
sister Margaret Book at the Outlook
Hospital; Loreburn, Saskatchewan
on June 12, at 78 years. She passed
away peacefully in her sleep.

U.C.W. reported that she had
stewardship material for the Units
to share, and thanked everyone who
helped with the church service on
May 29. Anna MacTavish led in a
short • worship service of hymn,
Scripture and offering which was
dedicated by Mildred Wylds. Anna
then called on Wilda Thompson
who is president of Bruce ,Pres-
byterial.
Wilda's theme was Peace for my
Soul. Some of the ways we can
achieve peace in our souls were --
quiet periods, • appreciating the
beauty and serenity of the world,
about us, developing your talents,
encouraging others, working in a
group helps us accomplish more,
develop a sense of humour (laugh
at yourself) and with others, make •
use of means to develop your
spiritual growth and thus have
peace in your soul. Wilda gave
several Scripture passages which
were helpful.
