Earlier, the Cool Camera Club completed the photography project and for achievement program had a display and booth in Suncoast'Mall. This marked the completion of 24 projects for Colleen Dalton and Dree Park, 12 for Taylor Park and six for {victoria Poganatz. Martina Poganatz received her plaque as a new member. During spring break, senior mem- bers completed a leadership project where they learned and practised skills such as public speaking, communications arid introductions. Participants were Jennifer Black, Colleen Dalton, Suzanne Schultz, Dree and Taylor Park. On June 3, the Kids in the Kitchen staged a candlelight supper at St. Joseph's Church, Kingsbridge. for parents, friends and special guests from the Dungannon Women's Institute who sponsor the club. The project, Batter Up, featured baking of cakes, cookies, pies and muffins as well as cake . decorating. The dessert table demonstrated skills the members have gained. MC 'for the evening was Dree Park andmembers entertained with skits, demonstrations and songs. During the evening, WI president Donna Young gave presents to Dree, Colleen, Jenn B. and Taylor' for recent achievements. As' well, Colleen and Dree received .their limited edition print. for 24 4-H projects and Taylor a desk set for 12. Youth leader bars were presented to Jennifer Black, Dree and Colleen and new members receiving plaques were Karen Dykstra, Julie Nichol- son, Nicole Quinlan and' Abby Vanden Broek. Adding bars to their plaques were Peter Adams, Chris Durnin, Natasha Godfrey, Della Hayden, Kelly McNee, Jennifer Meader, . Taylor Park, . Martina Poganatz and Jennifer Upthegrove. Leader Ken deBoer tried it in a blender, but it didn't look or taste right. Mr. Helfer and Mr. Eadie from United Breeders explained artificial insemination at meeting two. They brought the, insides of a cow for members to practice on. It was gross. The other leader for the club is Mel Ritchie. For the Love of Horses Leaders for this club are Merlene Bergman, Barbara Machan, Amy Alton and Karen Larocque, Mrs. Bergman hosted meeting one when 10 members answered the roilcall - what is the breed and sex of the horse you are most familiar with. Topics worked on for the first two meetings were how to tell a healthy horse, how to take the temperature,pulse and breathing rates of a horse, and warning signs of trouble. During meeting two at Mrs. Bergman's, members answered the rollcall - name one danger sign of an unhealthy horse. They continued to show and tell about their topics on horses - how to give first aid for wounds, items for a first aid kit, how to poultice a leg and special care of bruises. Some of the leaders showed and talked about other common problems of horses. Dungannon Horses Are Us 4..H NEWS dance from Clinton, Dungannon and Lucknow. On May 25 the group travelled to Kincardine to Robinson's Quarter. Horse Stables, where they learned about the breeding and foaling process of horses. . L.ucknow Beef Club Stuart Hackett was host for the second meeting of the Lucknow Beef Club when they met on May 19. The meeting centered on how to judge breeding heifers. Represen- tatives from local feed companies talked about the best Type 'of feed for calves. 4-H members embark upon battery blitz The Huron County 4-H leaders association with the help of 4-H members is sponsoring a. battery blitz June 29. In Lucknow, lead - acid batteries will be received at the Lucknow . Co-op. These batteries will be recycled and the proceeds will go towards the 4-H program in' Huron. Gather up your batteries, clean up the environment and help the local 4-H program as well. • Leader Sam Jantzi introduced,�a� members of the club to her faithfu horse, Princez,.during this group's second meeting. A demonstration was given showing how to wrap wounds, how to put shipping wraps on, take a . horse's heart rate and. temperature. Seventeen members enjoyed the. trail ride at Craig Hardwoods 'on' .
