These two performers have had a
steady string of hits on the music
and video charts for the last couple
of years. While both have distinct
'musical styles, both started out their
careers in Canada with the Tommy
Hunter show. Cassandra Vasik's
songs are written by the powerfully
talented team of Erica Ehm (former
MuchMusic V -Jay), Tim Thomey
and Robo Fox. Cassandra has
toured the continent opening for
country music superstars, Randy
Travis, Clint Black, Vince Gill,
Ricky Van Shelton, Alan Jackson,
Prairie Oyster and the Nitty Gritty
Dirt Band. On her latest album,
"Feels Like Home," she sings with

Cared." As Cassandra sings the
For safety's
sake, please
buckle .me in
"Remember...Buckle Me In" is
the focus of this year's National
Road Safety Week, taking place
May 20 to 26.
The Canada Safety' Council says
the number -one accidental killer of
children under the . age of 10 is
• motor vehicle collisions.. In 1992;
-,there were 239 deaths and 22,652
injuries to children from birth to 14
years of age as a result of motor
vehicle crashes. -Most deaths could
have been avoided; or the severity
of the injuries lessened, if seatbelts,
and more specifically child'
restraints, were used propetly.,in
passenger vehicles. ,
In• 1993, the `percentage - of car
drivers wearing shoulder belts reach
-an all-time high of 88 per cent
across Canada, with four provinces
achieving. over 90 ; per cent
- compliance.... Oddly enough, al --
though the compliance rates across
Canada for child restraints is over
80 percent, only 50 per cent of that
is correct usage.
An improperly used child safety
seat is only partially effective. It is
vitally important for parents to read
and follow the manufacturer's
installation instructions for any rear -
facing infant seat, combination seat
'(rearward and/or forward facing)
and booster seats. 16 is also neces-
sary to 'be sure that children fit
properly into the seat which is
being used.
The Canada Safety Council has
made available thousands of cam-
paign kits 'across Canada. These
give valuable information regarding
how to 'ensure your children. are
safe when travelling in passenger
vehicles.

Ex -service women invited
to Palmerston reunion
"Calling all ex -servicewomen:
WRCNS, WACS, WDs
Dear editor.
No doubt many persons seeing
this headline would not know what
it is all about. However, if you
were a female serving in the
'military during any war, you would
immediately know what it stands
for.
The WRCNS, as they were
known, were the women who were
in the Women's Division of the
Royal Canadian Navy; the WACS
were the division of the. Canadian
Army, and WDs were the women
of the division of the Air Force.
These persons served mostly in
Canada. Firstly, they were women.
and secondly were supposedly there
to replace their male counterparts.
Who could go `overseas'? The
majority of women were office
workers, cooks, dental assistants,
signallers, drivers and nurses.
Come on down to the reunion on
July 1, 2 and 3 at the Royal
Canadian Legion, Frank Lambier
Branch, Palmerston. There . is a
program for everyone. Contact
chairperson Margaret E. Heinmiller,
secretary Bernice Noble or the
Legion canteen after 4 p.m. daily.
Address for the above is R.R. 2,
Palmerston, Ontario, NOG 2P0. An
early reply would be appreciated.
Come . on over and bring someone
with you.
