has held, especially with the UCW.
Mrs. Coultes commented that this is
The International Year of the
Family and spoke of how looking at
the UCW theme for this year, "Mi-
ssion into the 21st Century", affects
the views on the International Year
of the Family. The understanding of
the word "Mission". has changed
over the years. The 'scriptures take
on a different meaning when they
are interpreted usingthe lifestyles
of the 21st century,, Mrs. Coultes
compared the priorities of people in
the '50s and the '90s showing how
the changeshave affected the
church today. Laura Lee Cayley
thanked Mrs. Coultes for her mes-
sage.

Bruce _County modifies
new tender policy
A new policy that requires tenders
for county projects to use local
labour has been modified.
The executive committee said the
policy approved last month was not
well understood by contractors.
There was also concern that the
added condition of estimating how
many local jobs and weeks of work,
would be created in each bid would
discourage local contractors from
bidding and reduce competitive
quotes.
The executive committee recom-
mended changing the wording of
the policy, requiring advertisements
for tenders to state that bidders "are
encouraged to employ local
residents of Bruce.County."
Recent tenders from Bruce
Township, where the policy
originated, state that "successful
bidders will be requested to employ
local labour to.the extent possible".
Meanwhile, Tara reeve Paul
Eagleson said "there's something
wrong with our tendering. service"
after he learned no Bruce County
firms bid to supply -two tandem
trucks with plows and boxes. The
tender went to a Kitchener company
at a cost of $243,790.
