Soundsation!
Based in Teeswater., but
comprised of people from within a
30 mile radius, this 'group of 75
performers meet weekly to rehearse.
their vocal chords in preparation for
what is becoming an annual, sen-
sational performance. On June 3
and 4, this group, under the direc-
tion of Byron Ballagh, with the
significant assistance of a 12 -piece
stage band, backstage help, lighting
and sound people, will bring a
year's hard work to culmination
when they present a two hour per-
forntance titled "Keep on Dancing".
!CS not only singing this group
will offer to patrons who attend. In
the spring, the front-line started
gruelling. rehearsals under
choreographer, Erin Dale of Missis-
sauga, as they strive to bring,
voices, hands, feet and facial
expressions 'together.
The group premiered in 1989 for
the Teeswater Old Boys Reunion.
When asked what kept the. group
going after the reunion, Angie
Busby replied, "It's the thrill of
doing something you love and
doing a good job. It's a real rush
when you get out there and know
you have brought it all together;"
Ballagh says, "It has to stay fun,
despite the hard work. These people
have a commitment to do it well.
They give so much of themselves,
and are very critical of their own
performance. As a director, I have
to make it fun for them."
In addition to the group's com-
mitment towards a •high quality
performance, Ballagh says, "Me-
mbers work extremely hard to sell
tickets to break even and, after
expenses, have enough money to
buy music to start the next year:"
This year's • performance by
Soundsation will take place on the.
Teeswater arena floor where they
can seat 1500 people. Locally,
tickets are available at From Our
Heart and Lucknow Cut and Curl.

Toastmasters: 'people helping people
What is a Toastmaster!
Dr. Ralph Smedley, -founder of
Toastmasters International, stated
that "Toastmasters is the only or-
ganization that I know of that is,
dedicated to the individual. We.
work together to bring out the best
in each other, and then we apply
our skills to help others."
A Toastmaster is a person who it
committed to personal growth and
development. Both -for him-
self/herself and for the greater
community. Mans destiny is not to
walk aimlessly across the earth
pursuing selfless gain: The greatest
joy a person can receive is helping
and watching another person grow

People, by their very nature, resist
change. Change, however, is the
buzz word of the future. Int order to.
compete in the years ahead in our
'changing global environment,
people will need a solid firm foun-
dation to plant their feet on and,
recharge their baueries, so to speak.
Toastmasters platform will
/ provide this support. Based on a
proven solid, educational structured
program, Toastmasters will provide
direction and leadership, positive
support and encouragement,
friendship, evaluation, training and
development and a healthy dose of
self esteem to those who reach out
for personal growth.
In the years ahead, Toastmasters
