HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1994-04-27, Page 13Large crowd hears Waterloo choir A capacity crowd. attended St. Joseph's Church at Kingsbridge on Sunday afternoon to hear a two hour musical program provided by the Waterloo Regional Police Male Chorus in concert, accompanied by Miss Jean Ross On the piano and musical director Miss Terry English. - During intermission guest soloist Rene Stalenhoef of R.R. 3, Auburn sang Ava Maria and the Holy City and the Sr. Joseph's Choir, directed by Marianne Hogan, entertained with several musical selections. Many standing ovations were received. • Eldon Austin had cataract surgery in London's Westminster Hospital on Apr. 18. Before and after surgery Eldon and his wife Mary spent the night at the home of her sister Margaret and Ray McLean, London. Dungannon Senior Citizen mem- bers attended the 19th Annual Spring Rally of zone 8 . United Senior Citizens of Ontario, in Hol- mesvrlle, on Apr. 20. Host was the Goderich township Enterprising Seniors. Local President Jean Phillips, serving as zone 8 president, chaired the meeting as well as an executive meeting. Jean and the zone 8 secretary, Betty Hulley were ap- pointed delegates to the USCO 1994 convention in Ottawa Aug. 8 - . 12. The fall rally will be hosted by 'Seaforth and Dungannon will host the spring rally 1995. Jeannette Courtney/and her twin sister Annette Daley have returned from a two-week visit to Calgary, Alberta, where they visited their ,. parents Roland and Emily Michaud; ' other members oftheir family and friends. They attended special 90th birthday celebrations for their grandfather Paul Michaud, who. • lives in the town of Chiteh Lake, Sask. They also visited with their uncle Leo and Christine Michaud in . Congratulations to Eldon and Mary Austin' on the .birth of a granddaughter, Courtney Nicole, at the Goderich hospital on Apr. 23. • Parents are Bob and Debbie (Au- stin) Robertson, R.R. 5, Goderich. Courtney is a wee sister for Curtis. Mother and baby were able to go home on Sunday. Stella McCormick is able to be home from the Goderich hospital. Senior Citizen's Five Pin Bowling Club held their annual banquet in the bowling alley recreation room on Apr. 21. Congratulations to Harvey Culbert who received a cash award for the high season average (220). Ken Eggleston of Vancouver, British Columbia, visited last week with his grandparents, Nels and Gloria Pearson. We welcome Helen and Bob Stothers home to the village, after spending the winter months in Goderich. The Dungannon Senior Citizens hosted nine tables of euchre on Apr. 20. The lone gentleman winner was George Cardiff, Evelyn Er- rington playing a• white card was high, as was Gloria Pearson. Shirley Kennedy also was a- winner. A Loony and bit of lunch brings' enjoyment to many and we play cards every Wednesday night all. year long, with everyone welcome, Stephanie Brindley, four years old„ daughter of Kelly 'and Larry,,, was. the center of attraction at a family birthday gathering on Apr. 24. Nanny Vi and Nanny Sher, aunt Susan and cousins Jessica' and Sarah Adams, uncle Ron, uncle Elwyn and Angela Glenn all par-' took in the celebration. Stephanie's birthday is today and she will be guest of honor at a pizza party with her friends. We gathered in the Dungannon United Church on Sunday morning Apr. 24, , under the Leadership of Lay Minister Sharon Wurm, whose topic was following "Jesus the Good Shepherd." Flowers were placed • in the sanctuary by nieces and nephews, in memory of Dell Durnin, whose funeral service was conducted on Apr. 21, from the •McCallum and PallaFuneral' Home, Goderich, with burial in Dungannon cemetery. The late Mrs. Marvin Durnin, will be remembered by her many pupils when she taught Junior room in the Dungannon School from 1947 •- 1967. She retired from teaching in 1969 from Brookside Public School. Next Sunday May 1, Dungannon United Church celebrates its 139th anniversary. Special speaker is Rev. Wm.
