Junior WI learn how to landscape property Brian Folmer, of Chepstow, was the guest speaker at • the Apr: 12 meeting of the Lucknow Junior Women's Institute. Folmer is a landscape designer and he gave an interesting talk on how to make your property look its best. He emphasized : that planning should start with the setting of a general goal of what is wanted. The property's size, shape, ,buildings, soil type and existing trees and shrubs need to be considered when deciding on where to put the gar- dens and type of plants required. Folmer suggested it is less expen- sive to use your property as it is, rather than trying to change it by adding drains and top soil. For example, a wet area of your proper- ty could be transformed into a bog garden. He usesmany different annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees in his- designs and tries to make the garden show different colors and textures for all four seasons. A thank you note was received from the Greenway Project for the group's donation. The 20th anniver- sary plan for May 21 were, finalized.
