French Canadian- communities in
New England. A serious ' car ac-
cident cut short her 1937 tour in
Rimouski. The doctors who treated
her for her injuries discovered a
.cancerous tumor.
Four years later, the final curtain
carne down on the singer. who, was
known as "La Bolduc".
Her songs made her an idol to the
working class of. her day. Today
they are touching a new audience.of
francophone ' Canadians who 'are
rediscovering their musical heritage.
At the Lucknow: United Church
on. Sunday morning, the Sacrament
of Communion was observed and
confirmation for several new mem-
bers. Those• professing their faith
were Cam and Chad Sellers, Daryl
Aitchison, Taylor Mali, Joshua,
Joey and Justin. Leeman, Janet Cox,
Ryan Hackett and Jordon Andrew.
In the Presbyterian Church, wor-
ship was in the form of Praise to
God with the singing of , several
Easter hymns.
The Sunday School pupils have
undertaken the project of collecting
stamps for the Bible Society. One
pound of stamps will provide one
Bible, so on Sunday they were able
to have enough stamps to provide
two Bibles. It is uplifting to here
good news like this rather than
what is usually reported about our
young people in this day and age.
Last week's Sentinel included the
death of Temple Douglas Clark and
Isobel Garniss of Wingham called
to say he was a cousin of hers, son.
of Temple and Jessie 'tDouglas)
Clark and .had lived where Steve
and Joanne Atkinson are living on
Campbell Street.

menced work at Henderson Lumber
in December, has moved into the
back apartment of the Anderson
building on Campbell Street. He
had been living near Lake Huron.
There were seven tables of shoot
in play at the Drop in Centre last
week. Caroline Menary and Art
Ernewein were in high spots, with
Betty Ritchie and Wes Young, in
low spots. Most shoots went to
Andy Scott. •
Shirley Robinson, sister of Bill
Robinson, Ripley, was quoted in
Macleans recently on the actions of
. those Canadian soldiers involved in
the torturing of a 16 -year-old
Somali. Robinson is a retired
lieutenant -colonel, who. when inter-
viewed on CBC Radio's 'Comme-
ntary' said, "Although there has
been an attempt to dilute this evil
act by attributing it to a few 'bad
apples,' it nonetheless tarnishes
Canada and all of us who served
and are serving in the Canadian
Forces."
