"'-ntinel • Apartment residents are guests of UCW groups Unit 1 Unit 1 of the Lucknow United Church Women met at the River Valley Apartments for their Apr. 5 meeting. Twelve members and one guest were present. The committee of Grace Gibson, Edith MacKenzie and Noma Campbell based their program on spring and the resurrection story from Luke. Grace and Noma took turns reading passages relating to the scripture, stating in the resurrection we are committed to serve, we -must go to the cross of redemption if we are to be saved. The disciples went out and won 'the people in great numbers. To believe the Lord, we only have to look around us at this time to see the many miracles; miracles that God has performed. Look at God's world and see the new growth in spring and in all nature. Various readings were given and ' hymns sung keeping with the theme of Easter. Rollcall was to give an Easter verse: The offering was received and dedicated, along with the birthday jar; and the service of the Least Coin. Best wishes were extended to the birthday girls. A report was received from .the visiting commit- tee and cards signedfor shut-ins. Unit 2 • Members of Unit 2 of the Luck - now United Church Women gathered at Maple Breezes for their Apr. 5 meeting, to welcome spring. Twelve members and five guests told something she about spring. • The meditation, "spring is the miracle of life' and is God's han- diwork was :.given by Deanna Reavie, Various readings pertaining to spring and hymn singing added much to the program. • Rollcall was, answered with an Easter verse or hymn. Various business matters were dealt. with. Eileen Lemonie and Beryl Hunter were extended best wishes on their April birthdays. A birthday card . was. signed for Mrs. Clarence Irwin,•who celebrates her special day this week. Following the Benediction, Evelyn Cook ' and Edna Alton served retreshments while the ladies visited. Unit 3 Lucknow United Church Women Unit 3 met Apr. 5. The committee of Norma Weatherhead, Boyle and Roberta Whytockh con- ducted the worship service. Mrs. Boyle read scripture from Luke 4 and John 4 and everyone discussed "Mission into the 21st Century" compared to mission as found in these scriptures. Raylene Rebryna favored with vocal selections. Mrs. Whytock, read a story on mission, "Hope That Shines Through." Miss Weatherhead read an article which told about vision for our own church and vision for our world church. Rollcall was answered by 23 with a donation of a tea towel ordish cloth for use in the church kitchen. Treasurer, . Mildred Cameron, reported, 26 had paid membership fees. Kathleen Collyer, for citizen- ship, explained how the date to Celebrate Easter is determined each year. Laura Lee Cayley, christian education, reported that 10 adults will be confirmed. Mrs. Cayley will make presentations on Amnesty International at four schools. Fellowship of the Least Coin was given by Mrs. Boyle on justice, peace and' creation. Special notes Ladies of the UCW learned that. the collection of aluminum pop can tabswill be sent to the Royal Canadian Legion Hall in Elora. It.' takes 7f million tabs to sell to Alcan Aluminum to raise enough money to buy ,a $3;000 wheelchair for a 'handicapped person. In the past four years, wheelchairs have been purchased for 24 people with money received for scrap from 1 the tabs that the' UCW, along with many other organizations, are saving. The church is hosting a ham supper on Apr. 17. Muriel Coultes, of Belgrave, will be the guest speaker at the UCW Thankoffering on Apr. 24. A shower will be held for Heather Priestap in the fellowship room on. .Apr. 23 at 2 p.m. WMS hosts Thankoffering Rev. B. Bresnahan was the guest speaker at the Easter Thankoffering meeting of the Lucknow Pres- byterian WMS on Apr. 6. He spoke on "Faith" , as described in John 20:29, "Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. He gave three different il- lustrations of faith that had worked miracles in recent years. The first was of a congregation in New Jer- sey that had a 40 foot hill removed, from behind their new church to provide a parking lot, by an ex- cavation company wanting fill. Another was the story of George Meuller of England who cared ,for 10,000 orphans over 60 years, and never asked for money but was able to build five large orphanages. He recorded 50,000 answers to prayer in his lifetime. The third story was of Mrs. Abigail Townsend Luffe, better known as Sister Abigail, who cared for many older people before • the days of nursing homes. President Shirley Hawthorne, was in charge of the program and after welcoming everyone, including guests from the Anglican and South Kinloss churches, opened the meeting with a poem "I Know that My Redeemer Liveth" and prayer. Norma Raynard accompanied the singing of Easter Hymns during the meeting. The scripture and mediation were given by. Mildred Loree on the story of Jesus and the two disciples on the Emmaus road. Another highlight of the meeting was the presentation of two life membership certificates by Peggy Henderson to 'Celia Aitchison and Grace Gammie and one to Fem MacDonald which had . been donated by Jennie Porteous: Joanne Vanderveen sang two lovely solos. Alice Taylor read an Laster poem." The courtesies to ev9ryone that had taken part in the meeting were given by' Celia Aitchison and Elleda Laidlaw had the dosing prayer. j . WMS annual meeting,, set for Wingham "Partners in Mission" will be the , theme of the annual meeting of the Hamilton and London Synodical of the Women's Missionary Society, (W.D.) of the Presbyterian Church in Canada. The meeting will take 'place' in Wingham at St. Andrew's, Church on Apr. 19 and 20. Six Presbyterials will be presen- ting projects the WMS supports. Delegates attending from Maitland Presbyterial are: 1~rlma Haldenby - Kinlough; Agnes Bregman - .Tees - water; Frances Nugent - Ripley; Jean Leitch - Wingham; Mayme Wilkins - Ashfield; Isabel Thompson Kinlough; Mildred Loree - Lucknow; Sharon Mac- Dougall - South Kinloss; and Representatives from Ripley and Molesworth Evening.
