Co-op student increases his
Wisdom. on office procedures
by Jeremy O'Neill
My name is Jeremy O'Neill, and
my co-op placement is at Western
Machining; in Wingham.
Western Machining Inc. .is a
company that machines exhaust
manifolds for the automotive in-
dustry. The raw castings come from
Western Foundry, and the finished
manifolds are, sent to engine plants
in the United States.
What I mainly do is work on
AutoCAD, a program that allows:
for computerized drafting and
design. My supervisor, has me
doing many -other important things,
- such as developing manufacturing
process sheets, and , process flow
diagrams for the FORD Quality
Program.
I am currently working on putting
together • books of reference
drawings for different machines.
The . whole process started with
copying disks, running prints of the.
drawings on those disks, and put—
ting the prints into binders.
I have learned a great deal during
my tinge here so far. I have learned
how to use the blue print machine
over at Western Foundry (some of
those punts .are huge - close to 10
ft. long!). I have also learned
generaloffice procedures, such as
running the 'photocopier, knowing
the locations of staplers, extra print
paper, the coffee machine (a neces-„
sity), etc:
I'm enjoying working at Western
Machining, and I hope that the rest
of the year goes as smoothly as' up
to this point. Thanks especially,to
Rob, Al,. Sean, Jen, and John, for
making me feel welcome. I hope to
maybecontinuein this area of work
after University.
