Dungannon WI members
remember when ...
Thirteen brave members made it out to the farm home of.Bev Fielder
for the monthly meeting of the Dungannon. Women's Institute. Sunny
spring weather prevailed, the snow holding off untilthe following day.
We had one stormed -out meeting and one where some of us couldn't'
,, get out of our laneways because of snow build-up.
Roll call was "first Women's Institute meeting I remember attending."
Many had fond memories and pictures. Some took their small children
with them, others hada short .break_ from them.
Correspondence. was read. One letter asked the Institute to back a test
burn of discarded tires at St. Marys Cetnent. They would use them as
part of the fuel in their operation. •
This month's topic was resolutions, with Jean and Mary reading some
that were listed in the last. spring's newsletter and the government's
answers in the fall issue. Some the government passed and others they
told the reasons why they couldn't be at this time.
Some discussions were. the used tires issue, publication of young
offenders' names and crimes, investigate fair and equal policing, health
care available to all, the life of food in agriculture and remove some
videos from prime time in the interests of good taste.
Jean Errington had a reading on washing your clothes today and in the
past .where you started by building a fire outside to boil your pot of
water, separating the clothes into piles, using a wash board and hanging
some on the fence to dry, some on the grass and others on the line..
You did all the washing on a.certain day back then, not just put some
clothes in whenever there were enough to make 'a load as today.
• Lunch was provided by Joan Dougherty and Ila Crozier and we
caught up on all the news and happening of the long cold winter and
expressed our hope of Spring coming•soon.
