The Willing Worker's enjoyed a belated Christmas dinner at Rooney's, Goderich, and adjourned to the home of Arlene Curran for socializing. On Mar. 8, Jim and Margaret Errington had the pleasure of meeting Marilyn and Harold Fish - bank in Ingersoll. Marilyn, the daughter of the late Franklin Thompson, visited her grand parents William and Mabel Thompson many times in her youth. The Thompson, family carried on a black smith business from this Errington double Dungannon lot. from the year of 1884. Thomas and Hazel Webster purchased the property in 1962 from the estate of Mabel Thompson, who was not only blind, but also a deaf mute. Florence and Benson Shackleton attended the 85th birthday party of his cousin Alice Scott, Sunday at the Belgrave Women Institute Hall. Alice's birthday was actually on Mar. 8. Members of her two son's, Murray and Allan's, families and , friends attended. The Sunday service at Dungannon Quilters meet in Lucknow . The Five Sta{'Quilters Guild met at the Lucknow,.Community Centre on Mar. 9, which was a rescheduled gathering due to poor weather on Feb. 23. The program was "quilt in a day" with the pattern Log Cabin Colorado Star, taught by Betty Millen. of Formosa: • Plans for "a weekend 'retreat in Port Elgin .were finalized. Discus- sion was held on classes to be offered in April in lieu of •the an- nual bus trip.. United Church was in charge of lay minister Micheline Montreuil. It was a service of Rejoicing in the fourth Lenten period. Grace is a gift of God, for new beginnings. Carmen and Christina Farrell, Pine river, were church visitors with the Logtenberg families. The Pinecrest Nursing Home, Lucknow, afternoon was again in charge of Ms. Montreuil with Sandra D'Aoust providing musical accompaniment. Advanced storm warnings reduced the attendance at the Dungannon Senior Citizen card party on Wed- nesday evening. Prize winners were Louise Brindley, Aileen Trommer, Tom Young and Harold Elliott. Our Irish pot luck supper is on Mar. 16, 6:30 p.m., followed by regular cards surprise entertainment. Cora Thompson, Kincardine, attended the marriage of her daughter Joanne Whitney to Murray Morison i on Mar. 5, at the Drawbridge Inn Sarnia. Ryan, Christopher and Nathan Whitney, sons of the bride, escorted their mother and the two grandmothers with Arletta Glenn as the bride's attendant. Guest atten- ding from Dungannon included the Glenn . family Bernice, Angela, Andrew and° Amy and Elwyn Brindley. Dungannon CGIT joined millions of Canadians in February to raise money for World Vision Canada, by holding a 30 -hour famine. They girls raised $200 in pledges. Left to right, back row:. Thirteen brave members made it out to the farm home of.Bev Fielder for the monthly meeting of the Dungannon. Women's Institute. Sunny spring weather prevailed, the snow holding off untilthe following day. We had one stormed -out meeting and one where some of us couldn't' ,, get out of our laneways because of snow build-up. Roll call was "first Women's Institute meeting I remember attending." Many had fond memories and pictures. Some took their small children with them, others hada short .break_ from them. Correspondence. was read. One letter asked the Institute to back a test burn of discarded tires at St. Marys Cetnent. They would use them as part of the fuel in their operation. • This month's topic was resolutions, with Jean and Mary reading some that were listed in the last. spring's newsletter and the government's answers in the fall issue. Some the government passed and others they told the reasons why they couldn't be at this time. Some discussions were. the used tires issue, publication of young offenders' names and crimes, investigate fair and equal policing, health care available to all, the life of food in agriculture and remove some videos from prime time in the interests of good taste. Jean Errington had a reading on washing your clothes today and in the past .where you started by building a fire outside to boil your pot of water, separating the clothes into piles, using a wash board and hanging some on the fence to dry, some on the grass and others on the line.. You did all the washing on a.certain day back then, not just put some clothes in whenever there were enough to make 'a load as today. • Lunch was provided by Joan Dougherty and Ila Crozier and we caught up on all the news and happening of the long cold winter and expressed our hope of Spring coming•soon. Lancers can now enjoy pain free Mondays The Lucknow Lancers travelled to Ripley for the last time thisseason as. the host team doubled . up the Lancers 6 - 3. The Ripley Wolves swept the Lancers four games straight after the Lancers won the. .first game of the series: , The Lancers held a 1 0 lead after the first on a goal from Chris Irwin, but the Wolves added three in the second and three in the third to nail down the win. The • Lancers scored a pair of power play goals in the third with Rod and Steve Simpson netting one each. Dean Lindsay and Brad Priestap again carried the defence and of- fence and were two good reasons all the gatries were as close as they were.
