Tryouts planned
for female
Senior AA team.
Due to a surge in interest in
women's hockey, the London
Devitettes Girls Hockey Association
will be adding a Senior AA team to
its program this fall
Natalie Craig, a spokesperson, for
the association• said the Senior AA
level is to female hockey players
what Junior A is to male players.
Only highly -skilled female players
would be able to compete at this
level, so the association is planning
to draw talent from a wide arca,
Craig said.
Tryouts will be held starting June
15 for interested females 18 and
older. Interested players are asked
to contact either Jim Martin, at 455-
5800, or Tom Wright at 642-4888.
Applications for the positions of
coach, assistant coach, trainer and
manager are also being taken and
should be received by Martin or
Wright by April 3.
The London Dcvilettcs Girls
Hockey Association was started in
1986. Currently there are more than
400 girls registered in th'e
houseleague and travel ' teain
programs and the numbers are
';rowing about 20 per cent every
year.
The Association is enjoying
unprecedented growth and hopes to
raise the consciousness of the
public towards female hockey.
Women's hockey has attained
Olympic status and will be a full
medal sport in Nagano, Japan in
1998.
Co-op program offers
practical learning
by Ryan Greig
Electricity is one of the most
commonly used sources of energy
in your home, and also one of the
most intricate to (earn. Can you
imagine life without it?
My co-op placement is with
Gamble Electric and 'Plumbing in
Ripley. I work with Allan Gamble
and Dan MacDonald, who together
are teaching me some of the details
of their trade. In the past few weeks
1 have had hands -on -training in
wiring receptacles, new services,
rewiring, sewer connections, laying
pipes, digging trenches and other
jobs.
Co-op education offers students
practical learning in a field of
interest to them, The student has
the opportunity to see if they ac-
tually wish to pursue this career.
I feel if this program was not
available to us, some students may
seek a career which • they are not
compatible with or do not enjoy.
For myself, I find that this is a
very challenging and rewarding
career, and hope to further. my
education in this field.
I recommend co-op education to
all students who are undecided in
their choice. By the time you reach
post secondary education it may be
too late to change your mind.

ton" jabbed at the puck and
Raymond put it home to tie up 'the

puck out of the corners and .get

making good on a power play when..
Mark Hackett fired a high wrist
shot home assisted by Black and
Bob Raymond.
